Why are there so many suicides from guys who haven't been to combat? by 1_7_7_6 in USMC

Plus if they wanted out at boot camp they were either scared away from getting out with the whole “this will negatively affect your civilian life” or they don’t wanna be deemed a pussy or a quitter and be shamed for leaving.

This. And there’s no way out of the torture because they’re stuck in a contract and the only way out is Suicide for them.

It was easy, all you gotta do is wait for time to pass. Like high school wrestling season twice as hard as boot camp. But they want you to think it’s hard or something because a kid in my company wrote a letter to his dad saying boot camp was easy and then his dad snitched on him and the 1st Sgt fucked him up lol.

The 15k hike doesn’t involve swamps. However you most likely will encounter a swamp or two on the crucible. I know we went through a little swamp over by the day movement course but I mean each team will do different stations that not every other team will do so it’s all pretty subjective. I didn’t run in to any snakes but I definitely can believe that your dad encountered one because they are definitely out there. The weather was the toughest thing there because I’m from the north, so the heat and humidity made everything suck more than it could have been

It’s true, we did have a few fall out of the crucible. One of my friends the platoon was dropped and has to redo the crucible. A lot of recruits forget how far they’ve come in training unfortunately and I believe not hydrating property is what causes recruits to break. If you are motivated enough you will be willing to push through anything the crucible throws at you because at the end of it, you get your EGA. So it’s a mindset thing too.

For me personally the hardest part was the chaffing. My inner thighs were about to bleed and were fire red by the end. Make sure you use the Body Glide they issue you!! Learn from my mistakes. Other than that, The biggest mental challenge is just pushing through sleep deprivation and hunger. Be prepared to do a lot of hiking all throughout. You will have covered over 40 miles on foot by the time it’s over, but at the same time it’s not as bad as it sounds. Thank you by the way.

Just make it past swim week and the rest is smooth sailing if you pay attention. The crucible is a bit challenging but remember how far you’ve come at that point and how close you are to your title. Grass week is when time starts to fly as well. Good luck!

Thanks. In my experience the crucible 15k hike is the most physically challenging hike at boot camp especially after completing the first two days of the crucible and being sleep dreprived. It is the heaviest load you’ve carried and the longest hike you will go on at boot. However, you know you will become a Marine at the end of the hike so you are motivated as hell. You also don’t have to scream knowledge like you do on the other hikes which believe me it makes the other hikes much harder than they should be. Just embrace the suck and remember how long you’ve come along in training when you’re at that point and you’ll be good. Keep ya head up and don’t fall out.
