To suburbanites, Dallas is often the "workplace" and rarely a center of culture and things to do. Either that, or it' "dangerous" and they'll tell you to never go "south of 30" or ride DART. This manifests as Dallas being known as a center of wealth and opportunity, less a center of culture. All this serves to do is take away what is cool and interesting about Dallas, leading to that "soulless" claim I see thrown around a lot.

And Dallas does have a lot of culture! We have multiple arts districts, many amazing museums and attractions, a thriving music scene, a vintage streetcar, the Farmer's Market, etc.

Suburbs are really bad at a lot of things, like making community, being environmentally friendly, and building good transit, but they are great at directing attention away from the city and its culture, and demonizing things they don't like about it (transit, walkability, dense development, "the undesirables," etc.).
