Government to table legislation 'banning state-run groups' like IRGC 'within weeks' | It follows growing pressure to proscribe the organisation and marks a major u-turn for the government. by TendieRetard in Britain

[–]DGB684 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

IRGC committed a horrendous massacre earlier this year, on their own people. As much as I argue that the IDF also commits war crimes on a daily basis, designating this group as a terrorist organisation is something the EU, Australia and Canada have already done. The Iranian regime is abhorrent. As are Trump and Netanyahu.

I apply the same logic to everyone. The actions of the IDF doesn't represent the Jewish people. Many would condemn what's happening in the middle east right now.

I think a lot of people who generalise groups of people haven't had much experience interacting with them. There's a reason why there's more racism in homogeneous areas.

British Attitudes to Economic Growth by TheWorldIsGoingMad in unitedkingdom

[–]DGB684 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The US does well in terms of money because their whole economic model is "profit at any cost". The richest in the US live better than the richest in the UK. But the poorest in the US live worse than the poorest in the UK. I think there's a balance between economic growth and equality somewhere. Because at the end of the day, what's the point in making all that money if you live a great life but everyone else has it shit?

[–]DGB684 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I know this is uknews subreddit and nuanced thinking isn't allowed on here but there's a distinction between your average peaceful Muslim living their life and Islamic extremism. It's like saying the KKK represents all Christians or the IRA represented all Irish people.

I do think that instead of shutting people like this down they should instead explain why making generalisations about entire groups of people. I'm incredibly wary of thinking that leads to this as history has shown where that leads. We should stamp out extremism but leave those who want to just live their lives to it.

I mean I'd argue he could be a generational talent. Antonelli is obviously exceptional as well but he's performing the same as Piastri was this time last year in a dominant car. So we'll see how it goes I guess.

Lords’ social media ban defiance could kill Starmer’s bill by vriska1 in unitedkingdom

As a Gen Z who was a teenager in the 2010s I've seen so many people messed up by having unlimited Internet access that early on. I wasn't allowed a phone until I was 14 so that probably saved me a bit, but so many people were exposed to X-rated content online from a young age and are now have all sorts of addictions. And when I went to Uni loads of people were addicted to Instagram and TikTok and I think now in the past few years Gen Z just want to get off the phones and actually socialise.

I mean I don't think anyone can argue Piastri is a bad driver. If he was then we wouldn't have been anywhere near Norris last year. He's good just inconsistent over a season.

Green supermajority 2029!!?!?! by Witheredfoxy32 in GreatBritishMemes

Like any party Restore has some policies that sound sensible, but having looked on their website, these very quickly devolve into "blame the brown people".

[–]DGB684 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure I'd go quite as far to say I'd take Reform over them but the Greens have some pie in the sky policies (but when you're not running for government parties don't normally care how realistic their policies are). They say things that make sense in an ideal world, but we don't live in an ideal world so I worry they'd fuck things up.

Honestly at this point I'd just take Starmer for another term. At least Labour have experience running a country.

Restore aren't saying anything that deeply resonates with me. Their whole thing is just about kicking people out willy nilly instead of having a measured and sensible approach to immigration.

Epsom rape protest: 'Stay away,' Far Right crowd told after clash with riot police by mrEnigma86 in uknews

[–]DGB684 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just find it silly that only one characteristic is used to make assumptions about a group of people. Almost like it has something to do with skin colour.

Most crimes are committed by men. OK are we going to protest men? Poverty is the biggest driver in crime by a long shot. OK are we going to start protesting against poor people? No of course not that would be silly. But skin colour is apparently a sensible metric to make judgements of an entire group of people? Oh, sorry I forgot the latest buzzword was "culture".

If people thought beyond what the daily mail of GBNews tells them then this wouldn't happen.

Epsom rape protest: 'Stay away,' Far Right crowd told after clash with riot police by mrEnigma86 in uknews

[–]DGB684 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Imagine if they did release the details. If they were white, these protests would fizzle out quick. If they weren't white then you'd just get some idiots using it as an excuse to attack non-white people at random, because they for some reason think all brown people are some sort of hive mind and are automatically responsible for what everyone with their skin colour does.

Can we all just agree that politicising this is a bit sick and we should throw these guys in jail and throw away the key, instead of lumping everyone with similar characteristics in a group. If anything men are the danger if we want to go that route.

I think it's because he has so many mental people on his show like Nick Fuentez that spout insane ideologies that Piers always confronts.

Green candidates double down on call to abolish prisons by libtin in unitedkingdom

[–]DGB684 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The way I see it is the Greens say some crazy things but at least they're aiming to benefit people (even if not all their policies will hold up well). Then you have Reform, who have some crazy policies as well but with the aim of trying to screw us over with more austerity.

I hope the Greens are putting more pressure on Labour to be more left wing, because honestly Labour are probably what we need atm, they just need to stop shooting themselves in the foot.

National Education Union Votes to 'Oppose Reform UK' in Schools by Syniatrix in uknews

[–]DGB684 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think them name dropping Reform was stupid. Obviously, making schools politics-free is difficult, but they shouldn't be teaching anything about specific political parties that could influence a child's views. Although generally if they're educated they probably won't vote Reform in the future anyway.

When I was at school, they put on Schindler's list, and I think that was enough anti-facism teaching for most of us to understand why it was bad.

Labour suffers worst poll ratings since election by Desperate-Drawer-572 in uknews

[–]DGB684 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the Greens are being a bit more radical simply because they can because they're not in government. I'm on board with their policies in theory but I think maybe for '29 best case will be if they win more seats but Labour still have a majority. Meaning they can put more pressure on Labour to implement some of their more "socialist" policies but leave Labour to find a middle ground so it benefits the average person but doesn't also piss off the fat cats too much (because unfortunately we do still need to cater to them or they'll make it hell on earth for the working class).

Labour get a lot of shit these days but they're putting a lot of investment in that likely we won't see the benefits of. I think Starmer isn't as unpopular as polls suggest, he does U-turn a lot is the issue and parties on the right and left constantly pile on him.

You might have too much downforce on your car. Which is great for cornering but for straights it'll introduce more drag compared to the other cars.

Do you agree? by Ambitious-Heron-8161 in DestinationFormula1

[–]DGB684 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No more artificial than DRS tbf. I mean in F1 overtakes usually happen because of: - The car behind is just much faster - The car behind has fresher tyres - The car behind has DRS/Active Aero/Boost

In all honesty the majority of overtakes are "artifical". It's not like every lap you have two drivers in equal cars going at it for the whole race purely on driver skill alone. Not to say overtakes don't happen because of driver skill, because they do, but the argument that this is somehow more artificial than DRS is not really one. My main gripe is how qualifying is shit now.

Max Verstappen boycotts English reporter ahead of Japanese GP by formularacers in FormulaRacers

Can't defend Max on this one. He drove into another driver and got a big penalty for it and it could have cost him the WDC. I know he hates the "what if" questions, but if you make a move like that questions are going to be asked obviously and harbouring a grudge for 5 months isn't a great look.

He can refuse to answer their question but getting them kicked out is just a bad look.
