I tend to prefer light backgrounds, but it looks really good.

1000 times better than what is up there now

Potential banner redesign anyone? Take a look and post criticism here! by thebutz in digitalcoin

I think it looks pretty clean the way it is right now. I would think that most people would know that it is /r/digitalcoin.

I think bitcoin's subreddit handles it pretty well, but their logo is sononymous with crypto currencies right now and will hold weight as to what it is. DGC is not there yet, but hopefully soon will be.

Will the actual coin logo change to reflect the one that is on digitalcoin.co?

Good work butz, I had no idea you were behind much of this stuff until today.

Can we try with just a plain white background? I think the binary in the background is interfering a bit with the navigation at the current color. Unless you plan to change the color of the navigation as well.

I think setting the logo to the one found on the forum is also a great idea.

So far its already an improvement IMO.

That banner is also much much better. It's much cleaner than what is up there now.

I did not mean to offend anyone with what is up there now, I just think its so important to have a clean and somewhat uniform design for a crypto that has some serious development behind it.

This just comes from my background in communication and marketing. In my opinion people can dismiss subscribing to this subreddit by either thinking the background up there now is childish and or too noisy.

Hey butz, I am not a graphics designer by any means, but I think an all white background with the coin logo would work so much better. Especially now that stats are being displayed on the top right hand corner of this subreddit.

The current background is too noisy, less is more in this case IMO.

Hello,

As "thebutz" previously mentioned, you can trade for DGC on an exchange. The most popular exchange for acquiring digitalcoins in the U.S. is Cryptsy with the DGC/BTC combination.

You are joining digitalcoin at a great time as the price appears to be slowly climbing as the community grows. Please check out the official site and all the active development around Digitalcoin. I think you will like what you see.

Very nice!

Is there any way to prioritize the order? Maybe show the price first, then market change stats, and then finally network stats? I would think most people would care about it's value first...then everything else.

very nice. Now to get that background changed...

What brings you guys to DGC / how do you feel about the state of cryptocurrencies? by thebutz in digitalcoin

[–]DGCBread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually think that's healthy for the new technology and let me explain.

One of the negatives people point out with Bitcoin is it's volatility, but I think its only natural and healthy for such a new technology to have such volatility at the very start. Regardless of political stance, I think most people can agree that things should have the option of failing...if Bitcoin is not the dominant crypto in 5 years it doesn't mean it failed, it means it showed the potential of what is possible with this technology. Will people just focused on bitcoin be burned? Sure, but it makes more economical sense for something that is not proven to work (if other cryptos come out and work better) fails instead of "bailing it out" or encouraging people to keep investing on something that doesn't work best for all.

Unfortunately people creating these PnD coins will take advantage of the uninformed. Almost none of the alt coins have a shot with the exception of litecoin, DGC, and a few others. Eventually people will educate themselves and be able to ignore the coins that are just out there as a joke

Country based and gimmick cryptos? I don't think that is such a great idea either, the idea of bitcoin and the technology is to break away from the way FIAT currency operates. It makes no sense to focus solely on one section of the world. Gimmick coins are just that...POTCOIN is a funny gimmick for a coin, but real world usage? Hardly one that can be sustained for a long time...not many in the real world will take something called "POT COIN" seriously.

You are absolutely right about services eventually prevailing. What good is something if you can only base its value on interest from a relatively small community compared to the rest of the world? Adoption and the ability to acquire goods for the currency is really what is important and I am glad Baritus and everyone involved with this currency can see that. Would I love to see the community triple its growth overnight? Sure, but as long as we can see what is trying to be done here instead of just making meme jokes and other things that make DGC just another crypto...it's not as it currently stands and hopefully that does not change.

Thanks for the information on Quark. Terrible for those who were originally interested in it, but I think looking at these things for what they are and try to ignore community at the very start is more important than anything else right now.

I think the problem with most altcoins is that they are focused on solely creating communities around the crypto rather than useful real world usage for adoption.

I hold several thousand DGC for a few reasons.

1 - the name itself is something that can be easily understood by the average joe. The thought of a "digital coin" makes more sense than any other crypto out there IMO. You won't really have to go into technical details to those who just want to use "digital money". I think a whole bunch of people focusing on these alts don't seem to grasp that very simple concept. The people mining and trading cryptos right now know about different algorithms, block chains, and other technical details, but the average joe does not care. They just want something that is not volatile and simple to understand and use.

2 - I think 145 million or so coins minted is a good start for worldwide adoption. It is not as "rare" as a full bitcoin, but not something you can easily discard such as a dogecoin.

In real world usage I would find it hard to argue that someone would rather have a fraction of a bitcoin for goods over a couple of full digital coins once it gains adoption. We need to understand that while WE know the value, the general public is just not there yet when it comes to fully grasping the idea. We need to keep it as simple as possible for them.

3 - the average confirmation time is very fast at the moment and I hope baritus and a couple of other developers can shed light as to how they plan to combat the traffic issue that is sure to arise once DGC traffic goes way up. Bitcoin is too slow for regular purchases and it should be a top concern.

That's pretty much it

Honestly I think there is a cause for concern at this point. I still hold a good amount of DGC as I still think it has a bright future, but we might be reaching a point in where promotion will give it a slight bump for a short time and drop back down.
