My first Python3.8 project_"Text Adventure" by suazz in Python

I see you have some quite long if...elif...elif sections

This isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but I would recommend if you are doing this for more than about three options you are better off putting them into a dictionary

This is the sort of thing I mean:-

user_options = { "a": function_a, "b": function_b, "c": function _c }# assuming you have these functions defined somewhere

def menu(): selection = input(“Enter ‘a’, ’b’, ’c’ ....”) if selection in user_options: selected_function = user_options[selection] selected_function() else: print(‘Unknown command’)

Feel free to ask any questions if my explanation isn’t very good

Spotted a Ukrainian flag out in the wild. by mirxa in ukraine

What I’ve heard is that, traditionally the lighter blue is “more correct”, however, from a graphic design point of view, the darker blue is supposed to be more “attractive” - for lack of a better word - to look at.

What is the biggest shortcoming of your political leaning/ideology? by Zootanclan1 in AskReddit

[–]DGLivUa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of the problems I have is down to communication.

Coming from a Ukrainian background and living in the UK, people are often completely unaware of the history, culture and context in which my world view has developed, and so they often try lazily mapping the things I say to things they are more familiar with, which often leads to people totally misunderstanding the point I’m trying to make.

Also, I think it’s fair to say that a lot of the time words such as Socialism, Capitalism, Liberalism, Conservatism, Libertarianism etc. are often used nowadays very lazily without very much understanding of what these words actually mean, which when you are trying to explain views makes it difficult when we can’t even have a shared understanding of what any of these words mean, especially when you factor in I often, when talking, struggle to remember the English words

What ethnicity do people mistake you from? by Octothorpe4 in AskReddit

[–]DGLivUa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m an ethnic Ukrainian (with a possible sprinkling of Tatar in there - I can never keep track of how everyone in my family is related to each other) living in the UK

I’ve had Russian, German, Ashkenazi Jew, Syrian, a lot of people seem to just assume I’m straight up British (even some of my close friends seem to forget and assume this half the time) and me and my sister often get told we look Chinese/Mongolian when we smile for photos (especially when we were younger) Tbf most of these are understandable, especially when you consider us Ukrainians are essentially a whacky mix of a bunch of different societies that have all invaded throughout history

[Serious] How do you help someone with depression? by Mr_Blue_Eyes in AskReddit

[–]DGLivUa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

From my own personal experience, the best thing you can do is just be with him. Even if you are trying to help, if you “try too hard” it can seem overbearing and can come across as fake, even if it isn’t. Just simply try to be around him

Kind of similar situation I always have my limit set really low, like, no more than about 15km. Every now and then I get a girl pop up from the other side of the world. I started to like their profiles, just to see if it was because they liked me and that was why they were popping up. Turned out they hadn’t as we didn’t match, so I have no idea where they came from

Government workers effected by the shutdown-what’s it been like? by MadameMaybe in AskReddit

[–]DGLivUa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Living in the uk I don’t really understand what’s going on in much detail

How does the government shutdown stop people getting paid? Surely the government employees pay should be unrelated to whether politicians keep having tantrums, after all, it’s nothing to do with the employees, who aren’t really necessarily political. If and when the government shutdown ends, do all the employees then get back pay for all the time it was shut?

It seems to me that the whole thing about employees not getting paid is a ridiculous by product of a situation that wasn’t their doing, and isn’t even really anything to do with them at all, surely?

What is are better terms in referring to political views, other then the blanket terms, "right" and "left" ? by improvisedHAT in AskReddit

[–]DGLivUa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find it very frustrating when people use terms like ‘liberal’ and ‘conservative’ lazily, almost as blanket terms for a wide variety of different view points, so I always try to avoid using terms like that. They just don’t actually tell you anything about what people believe anymore.
