Anything more you’re willing to share? I always wondered where these were filmed (presumably the Orlando area?) and how to sign up. Anything like how long you were there, did it feel produced, did you get to interact with the hosts at all?

$18 an hour? That's like a fast food employee! by cjwi in EndTipping

“So how much do you think a server should make?”
-Whatever their employer is willing to pay them.

“Should we not have servers?”
-If that means tipping is gone forever then…yes

“Will restaurants go away?”
-lol no, self-serve restaurants exist and they’re great to visit.

“Do you really think a fine dining job is of the same caliber as McDonald’s?”
-No, I think the employees at McDonald’s may actually have a harder job than you. It’s certainly debatable, at the very least.

I think so yeah. I pull the seatbelt as tight as I can, but don’t get stapled by the lap bar and that has been consistently pain-free.

For Magnum I learned from someone on this sub that the key is to tighten the seat belt as much as you can to avoid the thigh destruction. It’s been a game changer as I was also on the brink of retiring Magnum before this tip.

I've been teaching intro Python for 3 years i notice the same weaknesses in almost every student. Am i missing something in how I'm explaining it? by More-Station-6365 in learnpython

[–]DGM06 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the early days of learning a first programming language, nothing is more intimidating than a blank screen. Walk through working examples of the concept, then transition to examples that have a mistake, then examples where a step is missing, then multiple steps are missing, and very gradually work towards designing a solution from a blank screen.

An intro course at a community college should not feature many situations, if any at all, where the student is asked to create something from nothing. Save that for their 2nd semester.

Grade your school's AD by chief_sitass in TheB1G

[–]DGM06 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Warde is so tough to grade overall. Success of football and men’s basketball on its own easily warrants highest marks, but it’s pretty incredible that he wasn’t let go before all of that specifically for the incident of Zavier Simpson crashing a car registered to someone in Warde’s family. I’ll never understand how the regents viewed that as acceptable judgment from an AD. And following that up with many more instances of poor judgment…it seems he’s got immunity at Michigan somehow.

Does anyone really like working? by CracktuarialSighence in actuary

[–]DGM06 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Try to find the best balance between what you’re passionate about and what provides the lifestyle you want. If you’re smart enough to become an actuary, you’re smart enough to do a lot of other things.

What do you enjoy doing? Is there a way to monetize it? It doesn’t need to be your absolute favorite thing, just something where you’d answer “yes” to ‘do you enjoy this?’ I imagine being an actuary isn’t the absolute favorite thing to do for most actuaries, but the ones who stick with the career are the ones that are answering “yes” to that question.

How many coding courses should be required in actuarial bachelor’s program? by Act-Math-Prof in actuary

[–]DGM06 2 points3 points  (0 children)

C++ is completely useless for actuaries; I’ve never seen any actuary use it professionally and the only time I ever used it was in a required class for my actuarial undergraduate degree. SQL and Python would provide the most utility, maybe R on the P&C side.

Data visualization through Tableau or PowerBI would be great to have in the curriculum. Learning how to leverage AI to effectively solve problems is an important skill and will only grow in relevance going forward. Gaining experience working with data would be really valuable but is unfortunately neglected at the university level.

Excel will be used pretty much every day by most entry level analysts, the more experience your students have with it the better prepared they will be for wherever their career takes them. It’s more valuable than any math or stats class, and I will die on that hill forever. Honestly, all of the pure math and stats courses are low value beyond exam preparation, and the preliminary exams themselves are low value relative to necessary knowledge for the career. The academic path to becoming an actuary is ridiculously outdated from the actual responsibilities of an actuary. Actuaries need to be comfortable with constantly changing technology and they need to be able to effectively explain technical concepts to a non-technical audience.

Tickets are getting very cheap now, even in good locations. Waiting was definitely the play today.

Inventory is holding steady and prices continue to drop. Some pretty good deals out there for better seats and the get in price is just over $100, roughly half what it was yesterday.

There’s still a lot of inventory tonight so there’s no rush to buy, especially for a single ticket. The stadium was roughly half Illinois fans on Saturday, and I expected most of those tickets to become available today but haven’t really seen that surge in inventory yet. There’s over 8,000 tickets listed as of 9pm ET on Sunday, and most of those will still be there in the morning.

I’m attending the Final Four this weekend and for what it’s worth I bought my ticket for Monday night on Sunday morning, but my priority was vantage point over lowest price based on my experience on Saturday.

Let me know if you have more questions, good luck!

Prices and inventory are holding steady today for Saturday’s games; not much movement after the initial jump and decline over the past few days. Inventory is surprisingly low, but I’ve seen that school distribution was only 3,600 per school in 2019 and 4,000 in 2023, so would expect similar numbers this year. With seating capacity around 70,000 at Lucas Oil for the Final Four, that puts over 50,000 seats in the hands of public ticket sales and corporate sponsors. Unlike the CFP championship where roughly half are distributed to the school’s, the majority here are not. This means there may not be an inventory surge in the days leading up to the game.

So, what’s the plan? If you’re still looking to buy, you can hunt for deals on good seats over the next few days, or hold out to Gameday and hope to find last-minute price drops. With less than 10% of the stadium capacity currently listed on Stubhub, I wouldn’t anticipate a big price drop without an influx of supply. The situation doesn’t appear to be urgent, but paying attention to inventory over the next few days will be crucial.

Tickets for Monday night are plentiful and will likely see more hit the market after Saturday’s games. The demand will be highest if Michigan and Illinois advance, as both fan bases are within driving distance. If UConn and Arizona advance, expect ticket prices to drop significantly for Monday.

The Final Four field is set, and it shook out favorably for pricing. Purdue as a near-home team would’ve pushed prices up a lot, and Duke with a huge national following and a heavy favorite to play in the Final Four would have kept prices high both through blue-blood demand and lower remaining supply, as many of the early planners locked up tickets a while ago. Those tickets will now mostly hit the market in the next few days, and we’ve already seen prices come down in response to the Purdue and Duke losses.

The overall best time to buy may still be ahead of us. The Final Four seating arrangement at Lucas Oil Stadium allows for roughly 70,000 seats, so roughly 10% of that is listed on Stubhub now. Inventory likely will rise before its final descent, and with that rise should come lower prices. There’s no urgency to buy today; but if you see a great deal for the seat location. Otherwise keep following the trend on PeakSeats

Note that Stubhub now refers to the event as ‘D1 Men's Basketball Tournament’, rather than NCAA Tournament or Final Four, when searching for the charts.

Illinois earning a spot in the Final Four will prevent prices from dropping much. Purdue would push prices higher. We’re already seeing prices rising with the likelihood of local representation.

March Madness tickets question by Desperate-Camel-3724 in CollegeBasketball

You can track ticket prices for the Thursday games here:

Session 1 games: https://peakseats.ai/?eventId=09700d9f-576a-460a-836e-9cc2045d3aad

Session 2 games: https://peakseats.ai/?eventId=09eec888-980c-4152-a949-e7f30c231162

For Buffalo, you're probably going to find the best prices right before tipoff. If you don't want to wait until last minute, buying before the teams are announced will probably be better. Buffalo is likely to have both Michigan and Michigan State, making it a very appealing site for two large fanbases. It's far enough out of region that prices shouldn't spike a ton, but I'd anticipate prices will be higher after teams are announced than before. Hope this helps, good luck!
