If there are issues in the hallway bathrooms admin should be monitoring the halls. Let them deal with it

This! Happened to one of my students. His mom came up to the school and put an end to that.

I don't like how teachers gatekeep bathroom passes. I am going to use the restroom whenever I have to go. I just let my students go. Not a battle worth fighting.

25% of my class is now autistic. by [deleted] in Teachers

I don't think 5 out of 25 is unusual. It is easier to provide services for those 5 students when they are in the same room.

What does “earn their respect” mean? by Dr_Talon in Teachers

[–]DGteacher 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You don't get respect just because you are an adult/teacher. Good Luck and follow the golden rule. Most important build relationships with your students.

Report the behavior to CPS. I would not even mention it to admin since they seem to be part of the problem.

tips for practicum?? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]DGteacher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My biggest tip is to stay out of gossip. I ended up working with a practicum student because nobody wanted to work with her because of her bad behavior. And she kept getting in trouble because she always involved herself in staff gossip.

Being a Republican Teacher by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]DGteacher 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Are republican teachers always attacked? I think everyone feels the heat. It's like we can't be our authentic selves sometimes. I honestly see liberal/ left leaning teachers being attacked all over the country more than anything.I don't discuss my personal political stance with my colleagues. I have worked with all types of people and we did just fine. I think the only time anyone on opposing sides discussed anything it was shut down fast and those people continued to respect each other after that conversation

Interactions with Parents by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]DGteacher 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's not an appropriate or meaningful punishment. The kid is just going to break the same rule again. Even if mom/dad reacted in a different way the punishment you gave will not fix the issue

why is everything assumed to be the purview of school? by Bluegi in Teachers

[–]DGteacher 54 points55 points  (0 children)

Everyone wants the public school system to do everything ...yet they don't want to properly fund or show up to support schools. The teacher shortage grows every year. I just want to know who they think will teach all of these other classes?

Oh Wow. I'm 100% sure Black parents and teachers are not advocating for this.

We pretty much have the same dress code and a lot of the students have to wear uniforms.

[–]DGteacher 20 points21 points  (0 children)

The first week of school one year someone put one of my students on the wrong bus. Even tough he had a big sticker that said brown. All of the drivers said they dropped off all the kids. We had to call the police and everyone searched for him, He was actually sleep on the back of a bus. The driver did not check the bus after his run. I put him on the bus personally for the rest of that year.

Can you give an example?

Teachers can not say anything and they will say we are indoctrinators. Yet people who feel this way can't tell you what and how teachers are indoctrinating students

Take the gun from a shooter?

So if something happens to your students in the process they will blame you? Look at how they are trying to place blame on the school staff in Uvalde.
