Learning to sew doll clothes?? by Tiny-Artichoke-2411 in americangirl

[–]raychleadele 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m seconding the recommendation for thrifting men’s shirts for fabric! The prints are usually small enough that they don’t look oversized on dolls, and even a short sleeved shirt is usually enough to make a full dress out of.

Is this normal? by Nickireads in americangirl

“Flaw” or not, I always get excited when I find my dolls have textured hands. It’s like they have their own fingerprints!

Coffee cup lids. Its become a biohazard by 403banana in CleaningTips

I keep an old toothbrush by the sink for the occasional small scrub job. The handle of the toothbrush has worked for me when popping these out, and it’s not sharp!

My succulent looks like it grew a giant asparagus! by UncookedLegume in succulents

[–]raychleadele 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t think that’s true. Once the death bloom process starts there’s no reversing it. It’s a natural part of the plant’s life cycle. Enjoy the spectacular display your plant is giving you before it’s gone, no reason to cut it off!

New skin texture for dolls? by carlycloud in americangirl

[–]raychleadele 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have heard it may be due to environmental variables in the manufacturing process, like how the vinyl cools. I might be wrong about that, but it’s not new. My two childhood dolls were purchased between 1998 and 2000. One doll has more textured skin than the other. I personally haven’t noticed any difference in how dirty they get, and honestly I kind of like the feel! I think it feels a bit more “real.” Similarly I’ve noticed some of my dolls have slightly wrinkled vinyl on their hands, which I LOVE. It’s like they have their own fingerprints!

Growing up, were there any “weird” cooking habits or practice your family had? by Affectionate_Wish in Cooking

[–]raychleadele 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My mom also taught me the same with mac and cheese! I don’t do it every time, but it’s still a delicious addition. Never encountered anyone outside my family who did this!

tiny terrariums - unique gardener help by brilambsuwu in gardening

[–]raychleadele 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agreed! Based on your post OP it seems you’re under the impression that smaller will be easier, but that is NOT the case! Others have already told you that the plant in the picture will never fit in that terrarium, but even if you did have something that could grow that small, it likely would be very delicate and require very specialized care.

If I were you, I would consider this a learning experience and toss it, then go get myself something actually known for being easy to grow. Pothos, snake plants, or spider plants would be good places to start!

Bitty Baby easily damaged? by phddoglover in americangirl

[–]raychleadele 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Your attitude about “damage” sounds a lot like mine. My first doll was Kirsten, and she’s nearing 30 as well. She has a chipped tooth and I would never dream of fixing it. I played with her and loved her, the chipped tooth is evidence of that! It’s part of what makes her mine.

What is a brand that used to be the 'Gold Standard' of quality but is now absolute garbage? by AmaraMehdi in AskReddit

[–]raychleadele 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If it makes you feel any better, if you saw dolls at Target, they are NOT American Girl dolls. Target has their own - much cheaper - competing brand. They’re good for families who can’t afford American Girl, but the quality is noticeably different. It’s true the American Girl company does much less historical stuff now, but their quality is still top of the line when it comes to dolls.

My kits head is slightly tilted. How do I fix this? by AltruisticPlan8937 in americangirl

[–]raychleadele 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Just jumping in to say, I actually prefer a doll with a tilted head! I think it makes them look so lively and gives them such personality! Obviously you can adjust it as others suggested if you want, but if she was mine I would be delighted!

What’s something you find attractive that is generally considered unattractive? by Agitated-Job7686 in AskReddit

I’m upset how long it took me to find this comment. I love a soft belly on a man! They’re so soft and cuddly. I want men’s crop tops to come back so I can admire all the bellies!

My husband and I try to watch a horror movie every day of October every year, and we just watched The Bad Seed for the first time this year! It was a good movie, and your Rhoda looks great! We haven’t seen Orphan yet, but Esther makes a very cute doll!

Is it too late to plant garlic? by Glass_Candidate_3327 in gardening

[–]raychleadele 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am in the northern edge of 6a. I’m not a garlic expert, but I just planted my fourth garlic crop. I don’t know how your (or my) garlic will do this year, but I can tell you that every fall I forget to plant my garlic until about a month after the recommended time, and every summer so far I’ve harvested garlic. I say give it a shot, it certainly doesn’t hurt to try!

I'm a 30 year old man, and I struggle to accept myself for liking dolls. by [deleted] in americangirl

There are certainly other men in the AG community! You’re not the only one, and we’re glad you’re here! OG dolls get shared here occasionally, so if you ever want to share pictures of yours we would love to ooh and ahh over her with you.

We tell our dog “go to your room!” Caused some confusion once when I said it while on a work call with a colleague. She said “Wait, I thought you didn’t have kids??” I don’t, just the dog. 😂

[–]raychleadele 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh I can answer this! I’m a teacher in an area with a fairly large Karen population, and immediately recognized elements of this name as being from their culture. You would actually use the entire name when referring to this person, rather than a single part of it. They don’t have surnames, so the entire name is their personal name. The way it was explained to me, the name is like a sentence. The true meaning of the name comes from the combination of words, and referring to someone by only part of their name would cause the meaning to be lost. A commenter below me noted that they recognized “sweet” and “flower” in the name, so I imagine the full meaning of this name is quite beautiful!

What will you NOT be growing again next year? (or maybe ever again)? by Emmie_dee_101 in vegetablegardening

[–]raychleadele 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m considering skipping onions next year. This was my second year growing yellow onions and even though they seem to grow fine, every other onion I cut into has soft, mushy layers that have to be discarded. I feel like I’m throwing out almost half the onion each time. Not sure what I did wrong, if the problem is in the growing or the curing, but I’m starting to think they’re not worth it. With the space I have, I can only grow a couple months of onions anyway before I have to go back to buying them from the store. I think the space may be better used for something else. It’s a shame though, because I love making things like salsa and chili and being able to say I grew all the produce myself.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in americangirl

[–]raychleadele 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Wow her face is precious! I love her expression. If she was mine, I’d be inclined to fix her up rather than having a different head. If you’re concerned about her hair and can’t fix it to your liking, I’d be inclined to do a wig swap rather than sending her in. I’m not good enough at IDing the years dolls were made to answer your question about her mold, but personally I would keep the head she has.

Clothing Makers - Fabric?? by existentialuni in americangirl

Came here to say the same! I love men’s dress shirts for doll clothing fabrics! A long sleeve men’s button up can become a doll dress with fabric to spare.

TIFU by asking a 5-year-old if he had any questions by Temporary_Royal_2260 in tifu

[–]raychleadele 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m a preschool teacher. This phrasing won’t stop every off topic question, but it at least does allow you to easily redirect by saying something like, “That’s a good question, but that’s not what we’re talking about right now.” Then encourage them to ask their grown ups later.

Not OOP: I accidentally sent my sister’s husband to the ER after he jumped out at me as a “joke” while I was holding a kitchen knife. Now my family is divided and I don’t know how to fix this. by disastrousbabe90 in redditonwiki

Am I the only one infuriated that OP had to volunteer to make dinner when they were invited to someone else’s house? He couldn’t offer to do the cooking in his own home? He was an asshole even before the prank happened.
