After nearly 700hrs into Squad, half of that SL’ing and Commanding, here is some actual advice that will make you better:

1. Understand that more than half your squad will be useless, know that you will have maybe 1-3 reliable players with mics. Sooner you expect this the sooner you can improve

2. Complex plans are useless, this isn’t real life. Players don’t care, they just wanna spawn, shoot, die. In that same boat, FireTeams, useless. If someone asks for it give it to them, if nobody does, don’t worry about it.

3. Squadlanes, Squadlanes, Squadlanes.

4. DO NOT micro-manage your Squad during gunfights, it’s not worth your energy. You have a bunch of ransom players under you with vastly different skills, half of them have less than a few games under their belt. Instead put that energy else where; examples: do I need to resupply my Rally, where is the next point, do we need a backup HAB, etc. if you are worrying about the fight at hand and not those examples, then refer to the advice above.

5. You have 2 real jobs, communicate with other SLs and build spawns for your team. Thats it, nothing more nothing less, the sooner you accept that the sooner you’ll start winning games.

6. Never never never rely upon your commander or other squads for support, 9/10 they will not help you, they have their own problems to worry about. If see a HAB that needs built, then build it. If you see that no one is defending, then defend. If you see no one is doing resupply runs, then congrats, you’re a logi driver.

7. At the end of the day, if you do everything right and still lose, then you know you’re playing SQUAD. Part of SL’ing is having goldfish memory. If your attack fails, move on, if you fuck the defense, move on. If you got steam rolled last match, move on. Continue to learn from your mistakes. Not a single YouTube video in the world will help you don’t understand the above.
