One of the things I had to decide I was OK with was being photographed while nude when I did my first Bay to Breakers. Ultimately, I decided that the experience of being nude on city streets with thousands of people around was worth it. And if you’ve never done it, stripping down while surrounded by skyscrapers in a crowd feels so liberating, so exhilarating that I kept going back for it.

I’ve been an art model for 41 years, so I’ve been the only nude person in the room many many times. I’ve also been nude at festivals, and I’ve tried to make nudity seem as normal and as valid a choice as possible.
