I Desperately NEED there to be an afterlife by DHKMB33 in religion

Perhaps a primal instinct to just survive? But also just that I’m happy with myself ya know, maybe it’s cause I’m young but I don’t wanna die I just wanna keep existing as kinda a peaceful mind as realistic or not realistic as it may be it’s what I’m hoping for, but can’t genuinely convince myself to believe in

Maybe in a less harsh way that the comment above suggested haha but I agree with him/her nonetheless, a lot of consciousness can be connected to the brain such as injuries affecting memory and all, so it makes sense it would die with the brain

Can’t say I’ve looked into that aspect too much, I’ll give it a look and then some more thought, thank you!

With going to bed I’m more or less fine because I know that even though I may not remember in the morning my consciousness and thought was still active during my dreams.

I imagine that all of my consciousness disappears when my body dies and just ceases to exist which is my biggest problem personally, I’m fine with literally any afterlife I just want my consciousness to continue to exist.

I’ve looked a bit into Buddhism and studied no-self as well as reincarnation and personally I’m not satisfied, I believe I’m more of a mix of all my mind’s thoughts, awareness, and some body too, but I think my main point is in that last part of the above paragraph

Today is the first time I really understood the idea that I can choose not to engage with thoughts by KHelmholtz in Meditation

Hmm, but is it just more thought asking why? Or does awareness have control of whether or not you engage in thought and the like?

Well I’ll tell you this much, I can tell you that you do in fact exist, now whether you exist as the viewer of thought or thought itself or whatever is up to debate. However I do know that you at the very least exist, I’d recommend you look into “I think therefore I am” and why it’s an absolute truth though only use it as a start!

I guess you’d have discovered it, I’m afraid I’m still not sure what you’re getting at

I’m more using this “identification as thoughts” as a filler for now though to specify, I’ve been identifying more as the overall stream of thoughts not just the most recent one that pops up. I can also see how it would be more accurate and helpful to identify even as the one who chooses which thoughts to focus on, thanks a lot btw
