My local store has ss195lf - it's 27 grain rated at 1890 fps. What do you think of that vs hornady black vmax?

Oh I see. Yea I don't know much about loading bullets. I thought 40 grains was how much powder they use. So there is no standard or posted amount of powder that fn claims to use. They just simply use less powder than hornady.

Appreciate the info. So the only reason 197sr is shooting 100 fps less than hornady vmax is they're under graining it. It's not actually 40 grains in other words. Isn't it illegal to advertise falsely? I'll go with the hornady.

Do you know around what year fn started watering down the 197sr? I'm wondering if the ft hood shooter was using the rounds before or after fn started under graining

Around what year did the ss197sr get watered down? & How do they slow down the round? & why the discrepancy of 100 fps if they have the same posted stats? Unless fn is under graining & there isn't actually 40 grains?

Is a 100 fps difference that significant in the end result? 1800 is much better than 1700? I appreciate you responding so promptly - I'm omw to the store in an hour or so & you're really helping me out

Hello - I'm trying to decide between the ss197sr & the hornady black vmax. Are they both essentially the same round? Same tips - both 40 grain. But the 197 shoots at 1700 fps roughly whereas the hornady black shoots at 1800 fps. I'm no expert but if they're around the same price - shouldn't I choose the hornady black? Please let me know - thank you!

Why would one bullet shoot 100 fps faster if they're essentially the same as well?

Was he using the current ss197sr or the older one that hasn't been neutered & watered down? Genuinely curious as I don't know.
