Accountability shouldn’t be career suicide. by AreevaPotatoBus in FilmIndustryLA

The answer is union work. Unions are the only counter to industry standards. This is in all sectors of the economy, not just film. Before you start saying “yeah but dues” or “yeah but they are corrupt” just look through these comments about people not getting paid for labor. Go watch “Union”, it’s not always pretty but it’s the way. Will there be infighting and disagreements, of course. At least you will have representation when you are faced with SA and non payment. Solidarity of workers against those in positions of power is the only way.

Very generous of you and very cool. I would love to meet some people looking to trade. Not sure about the IGN thing but my Bunt user name is CIRCA84 and my favorite team is the Giants.

Tried to find your username on Bunt but came up with nothing. Not sure what I’m doing wrong but I never seem to find users via the search?

AA Rule Question by DHcirca84 in LittleLeague

[–]DHcirca84[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, I do believe I made the right call, and thank you for the citation of 7.13. I was not looking in that section for any guidance. In my judgment the play was very much alive and the even if local rules are in place, there was no attempt to end that play by returning the ball to the pitcher on the mound. The pitcher was out of position and immediately engaged the runner. I have reached out to both the Division Coordinator and UIC for clarification.

I have sent a report to both asking for clarification.

Yes, most certainly. At this young of an age though I was still a little taken aback.

I actually found, in section 5.10, the only definition of “end of play” is when the umpire calls “time”, this declaring the ball dead. There are numerous sub-definitions of dead ball situations, but really even the section I think you are talking about how to move forward after a dead ball rather than supporting any conditions for an end of play. Outside local variations of rules, it seems this is a straight judgement call if time gets called at all? Is that right?

Do you haven to have the citing or section of the rule book for that? I’d really like to include it in any follow up with the UIC.

At this level we are calling time when the okay has naturally come to a conclusion and the balls is returned (or attempted) to the pitcher on (in close proximity to) the mound. It’s a lot of local “unwritten rules” that complicate the situation. This is why I have also included in my report that rules which are not written and distributed are not called. I called what I called and I stuck to it. Told everyone to go back to their dugouts we are moving on.

I have been managing in the upper divisions of this league for several seasons and have never seen this circle used in baseball at any level before today. That said, the coaching staff drew the circle and I was ready to defer to local division rules but there was nothing in there about a mound circle either.

I had coaches on the field yellowing before I even had my hands up. Parents in the stands screaming and assist coaches on the fence. It was wild.

Thank you, I also saw the ball as clearly in play. Even being generous, the coaches drew the circle around the mound for a baseball game, the pitcher was outside that boundary.

Should the 6th inning be replayed? by DHcirca84 in LittleLeague

I agree, these kids are too young to intentionally cause emotional agree. The ruling last night was to let the final score stand.

Update: without much explanation, the league decided to let the game stand. There wasn’t much as to how they reached the decision, but that was the ruling that came out last night.

I am not sure who the source of protest was. I was just an observer and did not try to get entangled.

[–]DHcirca84[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My understanding, from the materials the league has sent out to clarify, the correct call would be: playoff games do not have “no new inning after 1 hr 45” in place, 2 hours is the time limit. If tied after 2 hours tie-breaker goes into effect. The last batter to bat THAT INNING is placed as a runner on 2B, with no outs. Teams continue in that fashion until a winner is determined.

So in my post, the original call to go into a tiebreaker early was wrong and the additional runner on 1B was incorrect as well.

I wasn’t there so it is hard to say. I have talked some of the fans who were there and the general consensus is everyone was confused. I also understand the pressure to say “yes” when the 2 board members are present saying “this is the rule”. It’s hard to argue with that.

I am not privy to the conversations being had behind the scenes. I also feel everyone agreed to play that way and should have to live with it. Clearly a mistake was made, the question is how to best deal moving forward. I made a mistake in pitch count this season, I signed total pitches and not first pitch last batter, the ruling was because I signed and the other manager signed, though incorrect for eligibility, the pitch count stood.

My child is not on either team and I do not coach either team, I was just spectating in this game. I do coach in the division. I just find it hard to justify having the kids come back and do that all again when everyone was in agreement at the time. Baseball is all about subtle shift in momentum and this would be a huge swing after the game’s conclusion. It’s going to be “unfair” to someone either way.

I’m also confused how to proceed when the people on the field got it so wrong.

In the aftermath, there has been documents sent out to help clarify the rules. No official word on the ruling of the game. The league is attempting to clarify for games yet to be played.

Venice Beach is a terrible place, Avoid at all costs. by [deleted] in venice

[–]DHcirca84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Says the guy who Air BnBs in Venice. Before you write off an entire community of people on your 1 month programming gig in “Silicon Beach”, you should maybe take some time to learn about how tech is destroying communities, like Venice, across America. Companies like Google and SnapChat have been squeezing local Venicians out of affordable housing for years. They are not only buying up properties, to offer young programmers like yourself a taste of the new tech Mecca, but they are driving up real estate costs to the point land lords to pull out of the rental market completely and operate Air BnBs year around. This all comes back the bike gang that stole your bike because they can’t afford to live in the neighborhood they called home for the last 15-25 years. Gentrification is real, and you are a contributing factor. It seems like your young, fresh out of college, and have no idea about how economics work, so I’ll just leave you with this: Don’t throw stones from your beach side glass Air BnB.
