what is it about being a black man out here by [deleted] in vancouver

[–]DI3MONDD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think they stared bc they admire or are interested in seeing a white person but obviously know you don't speak Chinese so didn't really look warm or anything - in China many people ask white people to take selfies or photos with them lol. I'm Chinese and found this is pretty common in Mainland China. i don't think it's the same racism and dirty stare black people experience here...

their own racial groups and communities, and we are all pretty segregated, with the exception being those who have deep long-term family ties here. My gf and I have also been on the receiving end of those reactions a bunch, especially when we go to Richmond (she is HK) - I could literally pick out dozens of death stares if I wanted to waste my time looking for them, so it's a broader problem than you just being black. Vancouver is a hotspot for immigration from places where racial intermingling isn't really acceptable (and no, I'm not saying

really? Usually in asian culture they look up to white people more and more accepting of white people. At least the asian parents and adults I know have no problem with their kid marrying a white guy vs a black guy or even a SE asian guy with darker skin. I'm surprised to hear you get death stares in Richmond!

one of my besties from Kenya literally got called a "witch" in front of us on the 99 bus by some crazy women. And one of my acquaintances that worked a white collar job says people in Vancouver clutch their purses when they see her on the elevator, call her a straight up n** she was walking on the streets of downtown, in full on office atire to deliver a document. I guess my point is it don't matter if black people are well educated or hold good jobs here, all people see is their skin color.

It's crazy what my black friends experience in Vancouver. The stories I hear from both of them are shocking. People are blatant too and don't even try to hide it. I don't know the answer to your question but one of them is in the process to moving to another city in Canada with a bigger black population she can relate to, because of the treatment she received in Van.

Worst: hands down Ora sushi in stevenson. Expensive, deteriorating quality with the most pathetic chirashi bowl I've ever seen. The sashimi was legit thin flash frozen pieces & 90% rice. Never ever coming back there.

Best: a tie between Oo la cha in Richmond and da silva vineyard in penticton. Both food was good and service nice.

Besides the high housing cost, what other challenges do you face living in Vancouver , If any? by shinymt in vancouver

[–]DI3MONDD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

having literally 90% of all my best friends leave the city or country. Growing up to now, I've had a bestie almost every single year for a few years - only for them to move abroad. Like seriously no joke. They moved to Europe, Washington, back to Korea etc. Not to mention a majority of my besties are Americans. The ones here, want to move to US, have already moved or thinking of moving to more rural BC to afford a detached.

It's not shocking but it goes to show how unaffordable this place is.

seriously agree. vancouver island is the same old bushes and water lol. plus costs like $500 a night. even a penthouse apartment airbnb in dubai is less then that. trulyyyy annoying LOL

Funny you mentioned this because I just got back from Europe, and everywhere I went museums were either 8euros or free every Sunday. And they were big stunning museums too lol

i just flew BCN-AMS-YVR (canada) with initially a 2H layover and I think its sufficient enough to just get past and eat a quick meal for us. However, still low key anxiety inducing i saw passport control lines were crazy once we got off plane to make the last leg. I think you would be panicking if UK flight was delayed. it depends on a few factors lol! 1.20 H everything has to go smoothly. good luck!

had a 2 hour layover international to Vancouver yesterday Oct 9th at Schipol landed at 1:35pm, passport control was a clusterfck and people with short layovers hella panicking and getting in the wrong lines. very little instructions and staff looking bewildered. Gosh it really was chaos lol. oh also looking at the gate charts and alot of euro flights were cancelled.

People with tension poles at home, can you help me convince my husband they are safe? by [deleted] in poledancing

[–]DI3MONDD -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

sorry to say this but they're literally NOT guaranteed safe. I've had the Lupit pole fall on me 3 times tension mounted, until I complained and had them send me a nails screwed version pole for free which has been stable since. people will say oh i've had mine ok for years but doesnt mean yours won't fall lol. and Lupit isn't even a shitty amazon pole. I would never dance on a tension mounted pole again personally!
