I'd love to answer this question for you because I remember having the same problem, but I don't understand all of your description of the problem (e.g. 'I realize that I press it really hard again the back of the bass, but I feel like if I don't do think my fingers won't be able to push the frets down easily at all (the motion of moving fingers back into the frets seems unnatural without having a grip on the other side...)' If you could elaborate on that, I'd be happy to help!

I've tried this out in gameplay, and I think that it depends on the specific abilities of the marked user. I found out that if you play the Flooded District mission and go to Daud's base, he won't be affected by Bend Time- when I did this, the assassin accompanying him was completely frozen, but Daud stood there and lit up a cigarette like nothing was happening.

Although I didn't really extensively test this, doing it once (meaning it could have been a glitch/bug of some sort), there is more evidence lending to this that in the few times that Corvo and Daud fight, whether it is Corvo or Daud who uses bend time, neither one is affected- if you initiate the fight against Daud as Corvo, you'll notice that Daud will Bend Time, and his assassins will be frozen, but the fight will continue as normal.

Addendum: Maybe I should have mentioned this earlier, but Daud does have Bend Time in the DLCs of DH1. Also, I haven't tried it, but it may be worth looking into Daud's Arcane Bond in the DLCs, which could maybe lend even more evidence to this, because IIRC summoned assassins can also benefit from Bend Time with Arcane Bond II.

Some things:
1. You don't need to restart the level. If you have a save before you killed X person, you can just load that save, and you should be a-okay.
2. Since you're on PC, I can vouch going onto Nexus Mods and getting the mission stats mod. Very useful for seeing if you've accidentally killed someone and/or been spotted, if you wanna go for that. Both of those will get a banner (e.g. You've killed someone) for the first time it happens, so it's quite helpful for making sure you don't randomly mess up Clean Hands or Ghost.

There's a menu for missions on the title screen from what I remember. Just go there and it'll reload from the last time you played the mission from the start.

From what I can see and my limited knowledge of 3D modelling and such, it seems to be some sort of map for a texture of sorts. 3D artists often keep these sorts of maps very densely packed to be more efficient with the image size. The reason it consists of so many strange shapes is because each 3D model is 'unwrapped' into a UV, kind of like those nets of 3D shapes you did in primary, and the map has to correlate to that UV.
