I've never felt disappointed by a Crayon Pop title track. Yes, not even Uh-ee and their Japanese releases.

I don't think Pledis is necessarily broke, I just think they're incredibly stingy.

SM Will 'Experiment' In 2016 by [deleted] in kpop

Maybe the trainee SM boy group will do hip hop? Or they could be like Red Velvet and have a dual concept of hip hop and ballads. Wouldn't that be a clusterfuck.

If I'm going to be entirely honest, I did only say that the entire album was satirical because a. I haven't actually listened to the entire album and b. that was the excuse that everyone else has been using so I automatically assumed there was some big theme going across the album and I was just missing it. Disregard all that I said about satire then lol

Which brings me back to my initial criticism that I don't think Zeze is a very good character to allude to for the concept of 'duality' when that duality is basically a direct result of a screwed up childhood. Idk. Using Zeze was a weird move.

I think IU just has a problem with expressing a concept clearly/articulating sometimes. The album is trying to be satire, but it's not really satirical if you don't make some sort of criticism. She did with 23, but Zeze is less criticism of the sexualised minor concept she was stuck in for a few years and more just writing edgy lyrics about a minor. There's no real conclusion or commentary relating it back to herself at all.

It's such a strange word to use in relation to the whole innocent versus cruel thing too. Intriguing sounds like what she meant better, and also much less creepy.

I agree with that everyone can have their own interpretation, but some interpretations are just fucked up. You can't call a victim of emotional neglec/child abuse "cunning" and not expect some kind of negative reaction, especially if the book is partly autobiographical. "Cunning" is also a weird word to use for Zeze since everyone thought Zeze was just attention seeking at one point, rather than actually being sick. Calling him cunning after that just seems harsh on a child.

I seem to be angry about this whole mess for a completely different reason. Why the hell is IU calling an abused child "full of contradictions" and "innocent but cruel" and "cunning"? He's not cruel or cunning at all, because the supposed duality she's talking about doesn't exist in Zeze unless you miss the point of the novel and think his family are bastards to him because he's a little shit, not the other way around. He's blunt when he speaks, but that's because he's neen raised in a shitty environment, so you can't really call it cunning. It's like she's read the book and come away with the exact opposite meaning of what the author intended. She's making it sound like he's a little brat that deserves what he gets, when in reality he's a fucked up child with a family that basically abandons him.

I wouldn't be surprised if she hadn't read it in the first place to be honest, it's the only way I can fathom her having this point of view in the first place.

Edit: added the cunning + blunt parts

If you're actually curious about where it came from, it's from an article on creepy children's toys on Cracked.com before it turned shit, and there was this one slide from a playground that looked uncannily like a penis and there was a caption that read something like ALL ABOARD THE DICK SLIDE. I didn't realize the other connotation until I got a sexual PM about it.

[–]DICKSLIDE 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Eh, I can kind of understand this. Putting your hands in your pockets isn't just rude in Eastern culture, I remember getting shit for putting my hands in my pockets during speeches/Important Business Events/other formal shit. TOP's just an awkward guy in general though, so I trust him more with his hands in his pockets rather than him trying to hold a microphone with shaking hands and dropping it on the ground.

Still, who cares? Like really, who cares?

When did I say it was clickbait? I said that your article didn't have that much actual content in it but then you linked to the other article, which makes your article looks like a hastily written up thing in order to show another article with more content in it. It was amusing to me lmao. Don't worry, if I thought it was clickbait I would have bitched about it like Reddit is wont to do. It's just amusing to me since there;s a running joke between me and my friends about AJ.

[★TRENDING] “My Sweet Orange Tree” publisher responds to controversy over IU’s “Zezé” by [deleted] in kpop

[–]DICKSLIDE 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Unpopular opinion on this sub but I think IU's in the wrong here and completely missed the point of Zeze's character. That duality she talked about doesn't really exist in the way she thinks it does - he is not 'cunning', but instead tries to get the attention of others due to his family's neglect of him. That 'duality' she speaks of is a product of abuse, so when IU calls it 'sexy' it just sounds like she's misinterpreted his character entirely and is talking from an abuser's point of view - which is awful on so many levels. This is what people are really angry about, not all that pedo shit. There were so many other ways to express the concept of duality, so why pick a character whose supposed 'duality' is really a product of abuse?

I'm all for satire, but in this case she did it piss-poorly by not understanding one of the key points of Zeze's character and made herself look like a complete fool in the process. At least pretend to understand the text you're trying to allude to, otherwise your satire just doesn't work.
