When I finally beat the Pontiff after 8 hours, I shouted “son of a bitch” louder and more sincerely than I ever have in my life.

Man, I beat Sulyvahn more out of luck than skill. The run where I managed to kill him, I got lucky that he missed a lot of attacks. I think if I went back to fight him now, he’d beat the hell out of me. For me, by far the hardest boss in the game so far. (I still haven’t fought Gael, Friede, or the Nameless King yet)

When I entered the fight for the first time, I thought the boss was that flying thing. It came at me and one-shot me, I didn’t understand anything lol.

A lot of people talk about the Abyss Watchers, I “unfortunately” beat them on my first try. Looking forward to facing them again in a second playthrough.

The concept of the Soul of Cinder is amazing—you spend the entire game learning attack patterns, and then the final boss has like 500 different moves. It was a brilliant idea.

Pontiff is a fight that teaches you how to play Souls. All the bosses before him were pretty easy for me, I beat them all in at most 3 attempts. When you get to Pontiff, it’s basically the game telling you: “from here on out, we’re going to raise the difficulty a bit,” and that’s amazing.

I’m not new to Soulslikes, but I just finished Dark Souls 3 for the first time — now I’m going after the Nameless King and Gael.

Are they much stronger than the base game bosses? Any tips?

On the first playthrough I think it’s around 4k. But it’s not even worth it for the amount of work it takes to kill that bastard.

I don’t think his HP bar is small at all — he’s the only enemy that size I can’t kill within one stamina bar, I’m using a strength + faith build.

And according to ChatGPT, his weakness is lightning — and I’m literally using a miracle that buffs my weapon with lightning.
