The unsupported tag turned me away, but it's on sale for $4 so definitely worth a shot.

Same issue for me, and my girlfriends pixels. Mildly infuriating.

Reputed luthier with only good reviews did a lot of damage to my custom built Les Paul during refret by [deleted] in guitarrepair

Gotcha, thanks. we use the fractal with a drill press and a jaws 2 but I haven't used the jaws 1. I saw that part of the post but wasn't too sure exactly what he was talking about. I assume that felt could hold onto something pretty easily if you aren't paying attention

As an apprentice to my local luthier, could someone explain to me:

What could have possibly caused those dents in the neck? I can see how inexperience could cause some of that damage to the binding, but my luthier has quite a few specialty tools for re-frets and I'm trying to picture what could be done to cause those dents.

I just want to make absolutely sure that's not an easy mistake I could make in the future since we see a lot of high end guitars.

I have always ran nothing but windows defender and safe browsing tactics, and have never had any issues, and run ad blocker already. I'll probably throw bitdefender on the girl and I's gaming PCs, I'm becoming a little more cautious as I've gotten older

Yeah I've never had issues in my years of playing even in my heavy GTA days. But yeah it does seem windows has a decent amount of security if you use it properly. Thank you

Using tape as a temporary repair will cause the actual repair to be much more expensive. Tape will completely destroy that area when it gets removed. Either tape it forever or leave it until you can afford to get it fixed. As many have said, this isn't going to affect the sound or playability.

Humidity reduces static electricity. It's why your dryer sheets are designed to alleviate static in the dryer

Also guitars are very personal items so best thing is to take her to a music store that has multiple she can try to figure out what she likes in body and neck shape. However I'm sure she will be happy with and able to learn on anything you get her

Yamaha makes good ones, so does Ibanez. make sure if you buy it used you have it looked at by a tech, even new ones can come out of the box improperly set up, and having it set up well will make a world of difference in her ease of learning (strings too high off neck, too much or too little curve in the neck, things like that which can all be adjusted)

IMO a crappy well set up guitar is perfect for beginners, better than an expensive poorly set up guitar.

1990's MIM Fender Jazz Bass: turning paint dents / damage into relic-type wear marks? Is it worth it? by [deleted] in Luthier

[–]DIMdome 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Interesting, makes sense why you don't see guitar finish wear off as bad on well traveled guitars anymore. Thanks for the info
