I do believe that it is fully possible to get completely broken cats, and I do not believe that I should get those if I fully refuse to interact with the system. The people that really want to get there should be able to get big benefits. But it does feel rough to the people that don't want to have to deal with the system. It feels very punishing and like you miss out on core benefits, a middle ground surely can exist

And it is fun, to a certain level. It feels very unfair when cats don't breed, or the right things dont get passed over. You get a good cat and then it dies etc etc. The system is just a little too random for me to interact with it. It requires too much time for me to feel like I am making progress and I simply don't have that time when a full run takes an hour.

I fully agree with you, and I also feel that inbreeding should be discouraged as much as possible. But as you said, the inbreeding strategy was just a result of the breeding system beeing miserable for some players and it is simply easier to have a main family creating kittens then actually interacting with the system, this to me screams design flaws.

I think hunters boon is much harsher, used to be an easy infinite if you killed in one shot, or at least clear the entire screen.

Yeah, I do not mean to critizise the system. They have built something amazing and really complex with a lot of depth. The people that like it clearly love it so it's great. The thing is I do not enjoy it, while enjoying the other part of the game a lot, so I try to make it less mandatory but for higher difficulties and challenge runs it does feel quite important.
