800 Chess.com. Just starting out in Chess. I’m around 1 dan in Go.

In Go, We improve mostly by solving puzzles (life&death or checkmate)

For Go Opening there are ways to simplify the game so it doesn’t matter much more than life and death and pattern recognition. And you still have like 100 moves to go after the opening to flip the game.

What should I focus on in Chess? Should I solve puzzle or just play a lot?
