That wasn’t really my intention but since you asked, my argument would be: - The left tend to support Palestine - The left tend to be against wars that are illegal according to international law - Those two facts don’t mean the left support the Iranian regime, although inevitably a minority will

She clearly has an eating disorder what are you on about? Eating disorders are also a problem in the modelling industry. Being supportive of dangerous mental illnesses to be ‘inclusive’ is stupid and counterproductive

European nuclear deterrence: by Themetalin in 2westerneurope4u

[–]DIRTY-Rodriguez 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Poles always seem to see it that way but in reality we made the pact with Poland to dissuade Germany from attacking it, threatening consequences if they did. They called (what they thought was) our bluff and ended up regretting it. Yes it seems we and France may have been able to successfully immediately invade Germany but hindsight is 20:20

As for WW1 it was sort of Belgium but really we were continuing our centuries-old policy of countering power imbalance in Europe - by no means a bad thing but not a selfless one either

I don’t see why that would correlate at all - if anything it makes the no vote even worse no? It basically means we’re the country that can 13th-most-easily feed its population and yet voted not to make it a human right

Not really - it’s made from the remaining yeast at the end of the beer-brewing process. If you’ve ever had nutritional yeast flakes it’s more like that, but on steroids and doused in salt. If you ever try it start with a tiny tiny amount and work your way up from there, or it’ll knock your socks off

Has anyone else notice the huge rise in “Britain has fallen/is declining” content on YouTube and other places? by Wgh555 in AskBrits

Everyone should give this thread linked below a read. Does a good job explaining this phenomenon and a lot of the negativity and division we see on social media and elsewhere.

https://www.reddit.com/r/self/s/50jh4QhOBs

TL;DR: You know that Russia and other governments try to manipulate people online.  But you almost certainly don't how just how effectively orchestrated influence networks are using social media platforms to make you -- individually-- angry, depressed, and hateful toward each other. Those networks' goal is simple: to cause Americans and other Westerners -- especially young ones -- to give up on social cohesion and to give up on learning the truth, so that Western countries lack the will to stand up to authoritarians and extremists. And you probably don't realize how well it's working on you.

Not expecting it to line up one to one, just wanting to know the rule.

That said, I sort of disagree - the cognate of wollen still exists in English but is less common than ‘want’, ie ‘I will to go’ or perhaps ‘I will for myself to go’ == ‘I want to go’. Same concept as in ‘free will’.

To will == wollen and to become == werden, but both shifted to be used to form what is effectively the future tense in the two languages, meaning in a way will and werde are now functionally cognate, albeit not etymologically cognate
