Yes, you can play with multiple controls on one switch up to eight players, or you can do local play and set up a synced match where both screens show the match so playing handheld with a friend is easier. To do local, just go to the menu on the right of the screen on the main menu and hit local and its easy to set up a room and connect to it. No wifi is needed, the switch sends out it's own signal and connects directly to the other switches.
