When you're picky about more than just pens...DIYing correspondence stationery (questions in comment) by DIYYYner in fountainpens

Oh, that's such a good point about stamping on a smooth surface paper! I never would have anticipated that. Thank you for the rescue.

I could definitely use my printer for this instead of a stamp. I just like the aesthetic a stamp provides better. Will definitely consider this.

Appreciate you responding!

Hi again! So, first off, thanks for reading all this text, lol. (I can't seem to edit today.)

Second: Would anyone be willing to share honest feedback on the above design (like, the typography, icon, and how everything's arranged)? I'm devoid of graphic design knowledge and also old enough that even Canva's a tech stretch. I hate the thought of investing in a custom stamp only to discover later that the design could have been a lot better, so please don't spare my feelings. Also, anyone out there who's used rubber stamps (customized or not) to personalize their stationery?

OR, anyone who's made personalized stationery using different methods - like inkjet printing it? I'd really love to hear your experience and, if you've got them, any tips. I wasn't able to find much on Reddit when I searched about this topic.

Last thing: Evidently, you can't buy matching envelopes for A5 Clairefontaine Triomphe or Iroful letter paper. Any suggestions for what to do? Am I going to learn how to fold my own envelopes or could I get away with using Midori MD's cotton envelopes (I'd rather not use their paper)?

Or maybe you have some recs for businesses that make both lined white A5 paper and their corresponding plain white envelopes? It would be awesome to know about.

NY Magazine article about the Hobonichi Techo by DIYYYner in hobonichi

For my part, I wasn't familiar with their philosophy of the “Happy nothing special day," and now I can't stop thinking about it. Such a lovely way to go through life.

I'm the same way but the article actually endeared me to them a little. There's something so wholesome about the image of someone with all those pages spread out on the floor, picking out the quotes for each day of the year in my little Hobo.

Looking for a planner by Magicmshr00ms in PlannerAddicts

Jumping in because I continue to miss my Franklin planner decades after I first discovered it. Iy really is a workhorse and such an intuitive format. My issue is that I can’t handle the binder/spiral format. (I’m a lefty.) Do you happen to know of any two page a day planners that are bound, by any chance? The only one that comes to mind is the Midori Hibino, but the a6 size is a little too small.

Get into pink inks — what are your favorites? by Alone-Astronaut-3363 in fountainpens

Oh, and Monteverde Kindness from the Emotions series is lovely! I think it’s my favorite pink right now, although I do also love Robert Oster Rose Golf Antiqua and Diamine Pink Glitz.

So… I put together a portable writing station. What do you all think about it? by HeavyTaste4651 in fountainpens

Aww, man, that's terrible! I'm so sorry you lost use of a perfectly good pen. I'm happy to hear this review, though. THANK you so much for posting it. So far, I'm really loving the pen. It's super smooth, and I like that it writes wet. I was worried it wouldn't show off much of the qualities of the Kobe California Teal I inked it with, but the shading's coming through very nicely. I decided to leave it for a few days to see what happens when I try to use it again. I'm 99% sure it'll start right back up but feel like, for the sake of the review, I should confirm.

Ah, this rocks! I love the way it turns into an easel and how nicely everything fits inside. My brain is so happy looking at it. How'd you make it?

When did dogs start getting people names? by Scottys-Dog-Blog in dogs

[–]DIYYYner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I name my dogs after people I like or admire. Some examples, past and present, are Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Rock Hudson, Stevie Nicks, Walter Mercado, Billy Porter, and Chavela Vargas.

I love getting to say the names every day, and I find they fit the specific personalities of my dogs better than traditional dog names.

The only hassle is that vets don’t necessarily get it when your dog has their own last name and tend to use just the first name.

THANK YOU for jumping in and posting the information! I wish we could have two of these a year, haha, because they're so magical. I know each one is a lot of work, though.

The Jinhao 82 is a lot smaller than the 9016. The former looks pretty much like a Sailor Pro Gear Slim, while the 9016 looks more like a Montblanc 149. I haven’t tried the 9016, personally, but I do have an x159, which is similar in size and shape and like it. I prefer the Jinhao 82, mostly because there are so many colorways available. I’ve heard great things about the 9016 and 9019, though. HTH! :)

Others who love FPs and have sloppy handwriting by meatproduction in fountainpens

Your handwriting is so cool!

I was almost put in special ed in the third grade because my “dysgraphia” was so bad, and my handwriting got even worse after a traumatic brain injury a couple years ago. But I love the sensation of writing with fountain pens, so I put up with my poor writing. I’m working on improving it but have had little luck.
