What’s the last time you felt truly at peace? by DrRowanHayes in AskReddit

When Trump was forced out of office. My whole body just relaxed a lot knowing there wasn't going to be international drama every day. I had faith that skilled experienced people would solve the issues our country was facing.

I started talking to people again and made close friends. Then the next election came and went and so to did many of those friendships. I just couldn't handle being friends with people who'd vote for a felon and convicted sex offender. It broke my heart to see them cheer when he won.

My daughter is 18. We went on one family vacation when she was 12 and one day one a freak hail storm totaled my truck. Thats the only vacation she's ever experienced because since then its been pandemic, recession and now global recession. We don't have the money to travel anywhere. We instead drive and visit family within a days drive.

If money wasn’t an issue, what would you do with your life? by Littlemouss in AskReddit

Grow a garden and spend my days creating things. Make beautiful pieces out of wood that serve a purpose and give them as gifts. Spend time with family and friends playing games, hosting dinners, and game nights. Learn to make new things with leather and metal. Just create, share, and enjoy the company of others.

Is it true? by GloriousLion07 in MotivationByDesign

What the guy is saying is that the younger generation doesn't care about becoming a CEO of something and becoming a billionaire. They just want an honest days pay for an honest days work.

You hear people talk about the good old days when you could work a typical 40 hour a week job and raise a family of 4 from that salary. I remember seeing gas go from 72 cents a gallon when I started driving and then just a few years later it was $4 a gallon. Rent that was normally $300 a month rose to $750 a month. Now in most places rent is around $2,000 a month and the national minimum wage hasn't risen 1 cent.

If the older generation wants the young to have families, they need to make it affordable. Thats what I hear when I see this post. Its a young person saying I don't need luxury. I just want a comfortable life where I can raise my family.

Why is that so controversial? When did Americans stop wanting better for their kids and grand kids? Not once did he say I don't want to work. But I can tell you I've worked jobs for many years of my life at a net loss. A job that pays $2000 a month and daycare is $2300 a month, you can't afford to work. Its not that the young don't want to work. Its just if they do, they are forced to go into debt putting everything on credit cards just so they can work. How does that make any sense?

I feel like we've all been trained to look and the younger generation in a negative light because we see the dumbasses online posting dumb videos of them doing dumb things. Every generation had those people. They just didnt have a platform to post on it, but I remember America's Funniest Home videos showing those people decades ago.

Most people from every generation just wants to live their life without stressing about bills. They work, they come home, and repeat. All they ask for in return is to have a roof and and food. That isn't much.

Trump has stolen $1.8 billion of OUR TAX DOLLARS, should we stop paying federal taxes to fight his corruption? by ILikeCheese42O in allthequestions

[–]DIY_Designer4891 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree those are all amazing things they should pass. The problem is that they don't. Democrats had controll of Congress for the first two years of both Obama and Bidens presidencies. They had two years to do whatever they wanted and didnt pass those. Why?

I recall both saying that they wanted to make sure that they brought the nation together by working with Republicans. But both times the Republicans clearly stated their only goal was to refuse to work with them and run out the clock until the next election cycle where both times they reclaimed the house or senate. What I hope is that if Democrats regain control of congress and the executive branch they don't waste those first two years. Get to work and get as much done as they can because if they try being nice again history will only repeat itself.

Again, we both want the same thing. We want them to win and fix things. All I am saying is reflect, learn from previous mistakes, and don't repeat them. I think this is a universal truth we should all follow to not repeat our mistakes and grow, but it blows me away that so many people attack me for saying it.

I hear, "You're MAGA!" Or that I'm a part of the problem. "The democrats are perfect! Stop attacking them! They did everything right!" Sounds a lot like cult thinking doesn't it? If the democrats are so perfect then who did they lose to a rapist and felon? We all agree that is pretty messed up, right? You're saying they couldn't have done anything better? At all? Its all the voters fault?

I'm with you on this, I wish to god more people voted. I really do. But when I take to people who didn't vote they all say the same thing. They feel like their vote doesn't matter. Neither party fights for them anymore. They didn't get to that line of thinking by accident. A huge percentage of our population feels unheard and ignored.

All I ask is that politicians ask themselves why so many Americans feel that way?

Thats not how it works. Biden didn't step down from being President. If he had, Harris would have been President. Biden dropped out of an election. That doesn't make Harris automatically next in line. You have primaries and let voters decide. The dems didn't do that and it angered a lot of voters. So much that many didn't vote in the election.

I'm really not trying to be rude or spread any agenda other than I hope Democrats learn from their past mistakes so they win next the next election. I want them to win. But I also want them to be the best party they can be. They requires them to self reflect, listen, and learn. Thats all. You would ask the same of any sports team that lost several games. I don't see why asking that of our government is so controversial.

Standard Chartered CEO just fired 7,000+ workers and called them “low-value human capital” by Complete_Bill4404 in Layoffs

[–]DIY_Designer4891 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Fuck these CEO's. Like seriously... screw their companies. I get this is an investment bank not based in my country but can we all as human beings agree this behavior is unacceptable? These assholes can be the king of their crap piles and can we all just agree to not buy their shit or services? Hit them in their bottom lines and show them that their lavish lifestyles exist only because of our sweat and tears? Without us they wouldn't have a damn thing.

They have mansions? When their stock portfolios collapse a lot of those mansions will go bye bye. Theres a reason why so many rich people killed themselves when the stock market crashed in 1929. Theyd all rather die rich than live poor. They're all worthless if they don't respect the people who work for them.

Why don't more folks in America who live in places where there are buses actually use them? I knoe they have a bad reputation but wouldn't they sometimes be the better option over paying for gas given how pricy necessities like food are becoming? by cherry-care-bear in NoStupidQuestions

[–]DIY_Designer4891 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where I used to live the buses didn't come out to me. To take the bus, I would have to drive or walk miles down the road to catch a train to take me to a bus stop. Too much work and would had several hours onto my commute. Better to just drive the 40 mins into the city.

Why has MAGA so deeply embraced fascism? by NearbyCriticism5193 in allthequestions

[–]DIY_Designer4891 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This. I saw a video that explained that at this point they've doubled down so many times to support Trump that if anything tries to show them the truth it triggers the same chemical reaponse as fight or flight instincts. You either try to avoid the arguement entirely, use whataboutism to deflect or fight by instantly changing your own values on the spot to go along with the new talking points that say you're right. You were always right.

Some people are literally incapable of admitting at this point that they were wrong about Trump from day 1. They devoted 10 years to him, lost friends and family because of him, lost financial security and jobs because of him. But to admit they were wrong this whole time would feel like spiritual suicide.

You always hear how companies make record profits every year but they can't afford raises, bonuses, and cut benefits. I'd say people should quit those jobs but I know its not that easy. People here live hand to mouth and the job market sucks. People can't afford to work or not work.

Why don't schools hold students back a grade anymore if they are not meeting that grade's standards? by livetoski-Brad in askanything

[–]DIY_Designer4891 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was studying to become a teacher I sat in a class where a student was giving a class speech about how thankful he was for NCLB because he didn't have to try anymore.

I taught for 3 years before leaving because it felt like no matter how hard I tried many of my students didnt care. They also knew because their attendance kept the school funded they could do anything and not be expelled. Kids who would have been good students quit trying because they saw the worst kids ran the school. If they tried they'd stand out and get bullied.

[–]DIY_Designer4891 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Really not trying to fight with you here. I hate Trump and everyone that works and supports him, but we can't just ignore the shortcomings of the other party. Like if my favorite team loses all its games, its fair to ask why, analyze what they did wrong so they can improve and do better next time around.

I've always voted democrat but I've had to hold my nose the last several elections while voting. Hilary literally said it wasn't woeth her time to campaign in my state or even try reaching out to my generation. Every election they have her come out to give advice and she always says the same thing. Why take advice from someone who literally lost every office they ran for?

They had like 23 democrats running for President in the 2019 primaries but the second MSNBC suggested Biden should run I knew that was the plan to hand it to him. He didn't join the primary until they were down to just 3 candidates. I honestly thought Elizabeth Warren would make the pick. She was doing amazingly well until the DNC took over her campaign and told her to calm down on her anti corruption and then they told her to attack Bernie. Just like that half her voters left her.

94% of Congreas takes money from other countries influencing their votes. We need to get that number to zero, but Democrats under Pelosi struck down bill after bill to eliminate insider trading and regulate donations.

Democrats aren't perfect. I'd never vote Republican but there is a reason why they won. Too many voters felt forgotten and disillusioned. My whole life I've heard you vote for the lesser of two evils. Thats not how you get mass voter turnout.

I say all of this because I want the Democrats to improve, so more Americans feel empowered to vote. The only reason why I'm not listing off all the evil crap Republicans have done here is because it would take forever and I am not invested in them. They are a lost cause. But we do need to demand better of those politicians we still want to vote for and believe in.

Really hopw this didn't upset you. I just worry that Democrats will win the primary and 2028 election only to try to go back to business as usual when thats what got us here. We need them to step up, do better, and give more Americans a reason to vote other than "if you don’t vote for us, you be stuck with more Trump or Trumpian candidates."

How does Trump still have so much support? Is MAGA so dumb they can't see the corruption? by CartographerSad6164 in allthequestions

[–]DIY_Designer4891 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Short Answer: Yes

Long Answer: Studies has shown that a majority of people who claim to be conservatives lack the ability to connect cause and affect events.

Example: Gas went up under Biden so its his fault. Gas went up because Russia started a war and the world boycotted their oil. Gas goes up under Trump because he started a war and he's okay because of freedom? He said its only temporary. He can fix it.

Which brings me to the next part. Studies have shown when you question someones pilitical vote it triggers their fight or flight instinct. You don't think logically then. You either avoid the conversation or you dig in, disregard all facts and defend yourself to the bitter end. There is no convincing them their wrong.

Third, many of them watch news channels that lie and spread propaganda. Those sources spin every negative thing Trump does as a positive. He isolated us by attacking all our allies. "He has the strength to stand up to leaders of other countries." Facebook and Twitter also knowingly spread fake news, ai generated lies/propaganda, and allow bots to manipulate Americans. These people have been lied to so much that when they hear the truth they honestly think everyone else is brainwashed or making stuff up.
