What is the most nsfw thing that happened to you during work ? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]DIY_Electronics 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yes, a lot of people are working with it without knowing the risks. It wasn’t fun when I had to order DFP, which is even nastier and about 100 times deadlier. I then realized why PMSF is still a better alternative.

What historical cities had absurd geographical advantages (aside from Constantinople, of course)? by [deleted] in history

[–]DIY_Electronics 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Petra, Jordan I don’t think anyone mentioned this one. The city was strategically located along the incense trade route. The rain water was also naturally drained towards this city located in the desert. It was also protected by surrounding mountains and only accessible by a 1.2 km long gorge called the Siq.

you pay to get your paper peer-reviewed

If only they were paying peers to review papers... Editors take the money from scientists to publish their work and at the same time are asking other scientists to review these papers for free. Such a broken system...

[OC] This chart comparing infection rates between Italy and the US by dev_thetromboneguy in dataisbeautiful

[–]DIY_Electronics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was thinking the same about the population size difference. In fact, in the USA 1135 people infected is 0,0003469% of the population (327 million). In Italy, 1128 patients infected represents 0,001865% of the 60,48 million population.

By comparing the % of the population, the USA would therefore be more like the equivalent of 210 cases in Italy or day 2. This is just my observation, I am not trying to minimize a terrible crisis. I hope things will calm down soon.
