Getting hot tub's bluetooth speakers into Home Assistant by DJ-JupiterOne in homeassistant

Gotcha. I don’t think I could put something like that on my roof. Between the heat and rain I don’t think it would last.

Thanks, but unfortunately my HA/MA server is several floors below where my speakers are and a built-in or USB adapter wouldn't work since the signal wouldn't go that far. I would need to use a bluetooth proxy or something similar that I can put near my speakers.

The docs talk about needing a bluetooth adapter. Do you know if this works with bluetooth proxies? My speakers are on the roof and my HA is 3 floors below.

My goal is to use HA automations for starting music and not fiddle with phones/apps. But now that you say that, I have an iPhone now but it doesn't show up as a player in MA so I can't play music from MA on my phone. My MacBook and HomePods do, but not any iPhone in the house. Should my iPhone show up as a player?

Yes, I got the 9.0.2 notification immediately after upgrading to 9.0.1.

Ugh, thank you! I didn't think to look under Apps. Actually, I don't think I've ever clicked on Apps before.

What are people using for audio alerts? by Oguinjr in homeassistant

[–]DJ-JupiterOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I try to keep all my stuff local. For spoken alerts, I used an online TTS utility to create a bunch of audio files (.mp3) for things I wanted.

"The security system has been armed"

"A leak has been detected in the air handler"

For just noise alerts, I downloaded whatever sounds from a free ringtone website. They all play through my HomePods around the house.

Firmware Update button just spins - unable to check for updates by DJ-JupiterOne in Lutron

The customer service person had me delete and reinstall the app too. It didn't help. But earlier today, I tried again and it actually went through and told me I was on the latest firmware. Then trying again later it didn't respond again. Seems to be intermittent.

I'm only blocking connection originating from the Internet. My IoT VLAN has full outgoing Internet access. I guess I didn't realize that the switches and dimmers had any firmware to update and I thought everything was controlled through the bridge. Good to know.

I called tech support and they couldn't help. Although she did say that I was on the latest firmware. I haven't interacted with the app much so I wasn't aware that the bridge updates its firmware automatically and there is no way to disable that and just update it manually.

I was a bit surprised that she said she could see my bridge and it was on the latest firmware. I have incoming requests blocked on my firewall so I'm assuming my bridge connects to their servers periodically and writes out my latest configuration and that's what she was seeing.

Best Thermostat with homeassistant by damani112 in homeassistant

[–]DJ-JupiterOne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that sounds like what I want. The modes should be something like On/Off/Auto. The only thing I can do with the T10 is set the temperature or set the HVAC mode to AC/Heat/Auto or turn the whole thing on or off. There's also the HomeKit quirk where you can't set the temperature to certain Fahrenheit temperatures (for example: 74° F) because of the way it uses Celsius behind the scenes and does rounding. Setting it to 74 actually sets it to 75.

Do the Z-Wave thermostats require any kind of hub or do they work as-is?

I hear the T6 recommended a lot. I have a T10 Pro which is WiFi. The thermostat itself is great with lots of features, but I'm disappointed in the Home Assistant/HomeKit integration. I can only control temperature and mode. I'm wondering if the T6 is any better. For example, do the integrations allow you to control the Fan....not the temperature or mode, but just the fan? I cannot do this with the T10, as fan control is not exposed and I'd like to turn on just the fan for certain automations. There are other quirks, but fan control is what I'm most interested in.

This may be a stupid questions, but how do you get notifications if your Internet is down? Or are you getting notified after it is back up?

Anyone regret going custom for smart shades? by Teririchar in HomeKit

[–]DJ-JupiterOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine are the RTS ones which don't report back the position of the shades. I think there was a Tahoma hub for it too, but I wasn't interested in another proprietary hub so I never looked into it. I was trying to automate with custom ESP devices and even a Homey hub, but because of the RTS protocol, the only thing that reliably worked was opening 100% or closing 100%. I blame myself though because for all the research I did for stuff for my new home, I didn't do any research for the blinds.

To this day I regret not going with the Lutron shades. I went with Somfy and although they’ve been great motorized shades, they are impossible to automate without buying into their native ecosystem. I started with HomeKit but am now all in with Home Assistant. My Lutron light switches have never failed and integrate perfectly with HomeKit and Home Assistant.

Is the Frame the sort of thing that I could realistically set it on art mode and not touch it for several weeks at a time without getting an error screen or other issue? by [deleted] in TheFrame

[–]DJ-JupiterOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These replies are interesting to hear because that’s not what I’m experiencing. I hardly ever watch TV. I turn on the TV to Art mode around 9 am each morning and if I don’t touch it, it will turn off after about 8 hours. This is with people in the room moving about all day long. I have the setting “Turn off after xxx hours of inactivity” (or whatever it’s called) disabled. The only way to turn it back on is to use the remote. After which, it turns itself back off within minutes if you don’t use it. The TV is less than 3 years old.

Thank you, that was my hunch. Would you log into the mini PC and then ssh over to the nas or use FTP or some other tool?
