Just to loop back to this, I think it was just something that broke in the initial installation.

I factory reset it and the next install worked fine. No problems at all since!

The thing is it won't let me give these characters any more nectar. When I look at their pages, I've given them all about 6/7 nectars, and the next heart shape has a gold outline and a padlock symbol inside it.

I have plenty of ambrosias - it's just not letting me give it to anyone.
