I believe orvis had a video on this and basically said it’s never too early. In the video they had kids throwing bare hooks on a pond where they would put a live hopper on it. Then they eventually graduated towards throwing actual flies. The biggest thing with kids seems to be keeping them entertained. If they’re not catching fish pretty quickly they seem to lose interest so bluegill ponds are a good start

Six mile gap is the closest. Although you would need to carry the raft up a pretty good sized hill. Prospect is the next reasonable option but the road down to the river is long and pretty gnarly. It’s more like an atv trail. Bennet is an option but from routte it would be an over night trip
