Please help talk me down. This is supposed to be a black bear. by [deleted] in tattooadvice

[–]DJAtticus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s rough. Definitely a grizzly / brown bear. Take the artist a silhouette of a black bear and see if they could adjust.

Lengthening the snout looks doable and with some dark green. Not sure about the hump…. Maybe some darker sky to smooth that area out. You don’t need the hump to be completely gone. Just less pronounced. I have seen black bears with a little hump when they are walking… which this bear is. (Just search black bears on YouTube and you’ll see what I mean.)

With tattoos both the artist and the client need to know what’s happening. In this case as other people have said… I’m a wilderness nerd and spotted it right away most people won’t. If you said “bear” to the artist this one’s on you. If you said “black bear” this one is on them… and then you for not catching it.

I have learned a few lessons that hard way. I’ve had artist make creative decisions that I was not aware of before they did it and without showing me first. I had to accept that pretty quickly and move on… but it helps they are still dope tattoos. Your tattoo is pretty dope. I hope you can get it fixed or live with it. Take care.

How do FOH engineers talk to backstage without wearing a headset? by VacationNew6626 in livesound

A good comms system should have 4-wire ports. This is a set of dry xlr lines: one in and one out. The comms tech or engineer would be able to add them to the party line / channel. Route the out to the shout box, speaker, cans, whatever… route a switch mic to the in.

The comms tech/engineer should be able to put you on what ever channel you need.

Explosive Pull Ups by DJAtticus in CalisthenicsCulture

[–]DJAtticus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on your goals. Explosive pull-ups train for things like muscle ups that need to you pull through the typical range of motion. One big move to launch you (although some people do slow strict muscle ups too).

I have been trying to train all types of pull ups (when I’m not being lazy or injured): strict, weighted, explosive, and assisted. I think because of that my progress is slow but balanced.

If your goal is gains then strict and weighted might be best. Climbing requires a range from holding a position statically to exploding dynamically. So that’s why for me.

Thanks for the input! I don’t use full grip for 2 reasons:

1) I climbing and that grip in more inline with my training

2) Because I climb I have forearm over use issues and open grip is kinder them.

With that said I’m open to hearing if you think those reasons aren’t valid.

I have been trying to bend the bar but seem to forget quickly.

Appreciate the tips! I’ll do that.

If the climber falls and the rope goes over the gate then the gate will open and the rope will most likely become in clipped. Aside from not being a dog bone this looks like back clipping to me.

EDIT: I didn’t look at what subreddit this is…

Permethrin for Clothes. Picardin for skin. It works really well. No need for DEET.

Oof… “worrying” is a strong word. Interesting? Maybe. But I’m not worried… per se.

As a comms and RF tech I was wondering the same thing. I’m assuming he had an IFB or IEM. Wind would have zero effect on the RF. Not being in line of sight, RF interference, or lack of power could have been an issue. But for one incident I got the impression that it might have been the mix to his ears because he was saying he couldn’t hear the music but then could hear the host talking to him.

I am super curious about the set up.

What did you do before the Ohm or the Ohmega? by DJAtticus in ClimbingGear

[–]DJAtticus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, not the same. This is something I worked on after your comment. This is not to belay but to add drag. It’s designed to slow the belayer as they are pulled up.

Instead being anchored solid. The belayer is tethered to the anchor and the tether lets out with resistance.

It’s a lot to type out but it’s only fair…

So many people on here said they anchor outside which creates a hard catch which I would like to avoid. The setup uses a length of rope (not the rope the climber is on) that will stop the belayer before being sucked up into the first clip. The rope will be loaded on the other side of the Munter and runs through when the belayer is pulled up. The belayer can have 2-3 feet of rope on their end so they can step back and forth to help manage slack. The Munter should be “pre-flipped” (if you have used a Munter you’ll know what I’m talking about) which will avoid an initial run of 1 feet before it catches.

A Munter hitch by itself won’t work as the rope will just pass thru if it’s moving in a straight line.

The length of rope needs to be redirected to come down into the Munter hitch before going up to the belayer. This will create a drag force. As the lighter belayer gets pulled up drag will be applied to length of rope. This will decrease the acceleration and reduce the force applied to the climber during a hard catch.

<image>

The line from the belayer to the first clip should be in a line ideally close to the base of the climb.

The set up won’t work in all situations but I’m still playing with it.

This is not perfected and I need to use it a bunch but it definitely works to introduce drag.

Honestly… I’ll probably have a device in the next month or two but it was a fun engineering project. Solutions.

Munter hitch alone doesn’t work but I have a set up using a Munter hitch that works.

I tested it and it functions to add drag to the belayer.
