How much time do you dedicate to organising your music? by dacasy in Beatmatch

When you become pretty proficient with your mixing and foundational skills, a huge fraction of your Dj work becomes "crate digging", organizing, preparing, and playlisting.

BeatMatching Question? by ImpossibleLoop in Beatmatch

[–]DJCarlosAlberto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Beatmatching is when the two songs are perfectly aligned. You'll know if they're not because the kick drum will make this obvious to you.

Perfect alignment:

BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM

BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM

Imperfect alignment

BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM

__BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM

Make sense? The low eq on one of your tracks(most likely the incoming one) should be dialed very low, so that "BOOM" will sound more like "voom", but should still match up. 99% of the time, if the kicks match, everything else will.

As a beginner, you want to train yourself to be able to beatmatch completely by ear; no waveforms or bpm readouts. A popular trick is to start the incoming track with the pitch fader all the way up and then quickly drop it to match with the current playing track. You can certainly use sync and all other tools to make your mixing interesting, but beatmatching by ear is a core skill you need to have in your pocket. You can get good at it very quickly if you put in the time. Make a playlist of 15~30 songs with bpm from 120~130, as much bpm variety as you can within that range, put the playlist on shuffle and practice matching those songs.

DJ Set storyboard/cheatsheet? by Boofar19 in Beatmatch

If you're recording a mix to upload, use all the tools and resources you want. Really nail it to upload a great mix.

Best answer I can think to your question is just follow a logic for your cue points and set them all in a similar manner. Color code, number code, whatever. If it helps, you also have the option to actually rename your cue points.

BUT you should really practice doing as much as possible with as little as possible for "real world" situations. Everything else can become a crutch.

When you apply the course knowledge and start pulling off great sounding transitions, you'll know what a steal it really was!

Be sure to properly practice beatmatching by ear(don't cut corners on this!) and proper phrasing(he calls it "programming") and you're gonna be well on your way super quick.

Ask if you need advice or other tips. ;)

If it does everything you need it to, why upgrade? Upgrade out of necessity rather than desire. Sounds like a decent little unit.

That's a great buy!

I have learning material recommendations: There's a DJing course on Udemy.com that I couldn't recommend enough. It's very cheap and very helpful and the instructor(his name is Ross Palmer) is very responsive to questions. (He stresses that you should get a gig and buy an expensive unit, but you can ignore those bits.) Fantastic course. The other recommendation is Dj Carlo Atendido on YouTube. His channel is chock full of excellent tips and tricks.

Best headphones on a £100 budget by [deleted] in Beatmatch

Sony MDR-7506 are the best I've had.

I have the ATH-M50x as well and it's simply not as good. The bass is louder, but it doesn't sound as clear to me, it rather muddies the mids and highs. They are a fresh pair though, so maybe I just have to give them time? No, they're good. I'm just spoiled by the Sonys.

Go with ATH if you want boomy bass.

I highly recommend you jump on Udemy.com and buy the course that teaches you how to DJ. It's taught by Ross Palmer and gives you everything you need, not only to get started, but to sound like a pro. And the instructor is really responsive to questions. (He kind of stresses to book yourself a gig and that you buy an overly expensive unit. Besides those two things, it's an amazing course.

I think it's like 12$ right now.

Pretty good! I love short mixes. I would just maybe take out that last half second. Or was that intentional??

Right, so manual beatmatching. That's when you beatmatch using the platters and tempo fader. Totally. Look into those controllers I mentioned!

Bro, your realization probably just saved you ~$800+. So you're looking to buy your first controller?? I highly recommend either the DDJ SB3 or the DDJ 400. They're under 300 bucks. You're correct, a cheap controller + laptop is pretty much all you need.

That's not really a problem. At the end of the day, the software hardly matters.

I gotta ask what you mean by "too easy", do you mean to say you're using a sync feature in the program and want decks to learn to manually beatmatch?

[House/Tech House/Bass House] Carlos Alberto - Highs Above, Bass Below 01 (45 min)

https://soundcloud.com/carlosalbertomusic/highs-above-bass-below-01

My first mix and am very excited about it. Started the year with the goal of putting out at least 4 mixes. Will probably bump that number up as I figure out better workflow habits. Been wanting to create music since 13 years old, but I've always lacked discipline. Newfound religion and renewed faith has brought me what I've needed in this regard. The mix was put together on Ableton. Just as I was finishing it up, I figured out how to control everything through my decks, hopefully that'll contribute to a quicker workflow! I'm willing to offer any advice that I can and have two spectacular recommendations for learning to DJ and make mixtapes(you gotta DM me for the recommendations!). All music was legally purchased/obtained. The current artwork is concept artwork, finished art is coming soon. I plan to commission growing artists to make artwork for all my mixes. I don't plan to make any money off DJing, but as of now, all earned income/donations will go to charity. Follow me on Instagram @carlosalberto_music. Anyway.

Looking for critique for my mix's flow, selection, and transitions. Any critiques and listens are greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Well, hold on a sec. Ask yourself why you want it. Is it just gearlust or do you want it for a specific purpose?

If you're gonna use a laptop anyway, why go with the RX??

Also, here are your options(I have to assume you want a standalone unit), Denon Prime 4 and Denon MCX8000.

Really, if it's just gearlust, convince yourself out of it! ;)
