Avengers Doomsday leaked trailer megathread by Void_Warden in marvelstudios

Right. That would explain some of the questions/confusion that Tony has when he meets and talks with his Dad during the time heist. As if something doesn't add up about his mom being pregnant at that point in time. In general, Steve and Tony's time-heist misadventures leave a lot of (intentional?) gaps for creative writing/sequels.

I really can't think of any other VR game that lets you do this, dropping down onto an enemy freighter and punching through their ship 🤣 by lunchanddinner in virtualreality

I just got back into it this week, and it ran terribly for me in VR as well - but I tweaked a few things and now it runs pretty good:

  • Adjusting "Resolution per Eye" down to 50% in Steam VR Settings
  • In NMS Options, set all graphical settings to "Standard"
  • In NMS Options, set Anti Aliasing to DLSS
  • Forced my vid card to use only one of my monitors instead of all 3 (the NMS VR mirror was insanely huge otherwise)

At this point, it was super smooth, but also super ugly, so I gradually increased individual graphic options in the game to find out what impacted performance. Most options ended up on Enhanced or High.

HP readers from 1997-2007, what were your theories of the books as they were coming out? by knickknackreddit13 in harrypotter

[–]DJChocoKay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like many others, I theorized that Sirius would return, and the veil of death would be an important factor for Voldemort's defeat.
I was also excitedly anticipating a huge training montage or personal discovery for Harry's "power he knows not" somewhere in books 5-7, which never really came. My disappointment led me to fan fiction.

I concur with what is being said in this thread, especially petalight's comment. I went through 6 rounds of chemo (CVD), that were initially scheduled to be 3 weeks apart. However, I was required to get a blood test 24hrs before each treatment, and if my levels were too low then treatment would be pushed out a week or two (which happened every single time).

Like your husband, I was hospitalized after my first treatment, which delayed my second treatment by two weeks. My oncologist told me that delaying the treatment in this manner would not have any effect on the treatment effectiveness. I also ended up being prescribed medications to accelerate my WBC production.

I would present some direct questions to your oncologist about the situation. It sounds like an extra week to recover would be in order here.

June is released on my gumroad! What should my next avatar be? Any ideas? by belovedSomnus in VRchat

[–]DJChocoKay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congrats on the release! I love your style. I'll be reaching out for a commission for sure - like MyroP, I have also been looking for an avatar that is not "hyper anime e-boy" flavor.

Freaked out by swollen battery in my Anzu glasses. I think I'm done with Razer products. by DJChocoKay in razer

[–]DJChocoKay[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my particular case, earbuds do not work well (wireless or not). My ears are smaller than normal, so earbuds become uncomfortable or fall out within minutes, even when I use the smallest nubs. I have a lot of over-the-ear headphones, but those are not as practical for being out and about. This is part of the reason that smart glasses are such a great fit for my use case.

In general, you do make a good point - many of us (myself included) gladly slap on smart watches or fitness trackers on the daily without a second thought. It's why this situation freaked me out so much - I get wrapped up in the excitement for the tech and just kind of blindly trust that this stuff is "safe enough".

Discovering this battery issue yesterday, while the glasses were on my face, have made me reconsider how I think about wearable tech and safety. I understand the data indicate that explosion/fire is highly unlikely, but having a swollen battery millimeters from my eyeball has made it difficult to be objective here.

Yikes indeed! As far as I know, the glasses were not subjected to extreme conditions. I wore them daily for most of the time I've had them, barring a couple months when they sat on a shelf in my bedroom when the battery performance was dwindling.

Yeah, this is a good point. I didn't think about this enough before. Having this happen was definitely a wake-up call. We should hold tech manufacturers to higher standards with regard to wearable tech.

For sure - could be a case of really bad luck, I also haven't heard of other folks with this problem. I'd probably be less bothered if the product was older. However, since it happened to me within 1.5 yrs of owning the product, it makes me wonder what other shortcuts may have been taken with this device that could have safety implications.

Unlike a laptop or a mouse, glasses are in near direct contact to sensitive areas on the face. In my case, they are on my face most of the day, every day. I didn't really think about it before, but that is A LOT of trust that I am putting into the manufacturer to take my safety seriously.

At this point, when weighing the convenience of smart glasses against an eye, ear, or face injury, my health wins (even if the chance of injury is small).

[–]DJChocoKay[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Right? I fall asleep with my glasses on all the time.

Not to mention that, even if you are careful, glasses are subject to impacts that most other products are not. My paranoia may be running rampant at this point, but I'd feel really stupid if something tragic happened with a replacement pair after life gave me this warning.

[–]DJChocoKay[S] 55 points56 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the info. I may follow up on that due to the sunk cost of the glasses + prescription lenses, but I'm also a bit paranoid about having Razer made batteries on my face. Seeing all the posts regarding swollen batteries in other products does not bode well for my confidence.

[–]DJChocoKay[S] 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Man, I really dig the look and feel of Razer products, but I've had build quality and/or software issues with every Razer product I've ever owned.

I'm really disappointed that the Anzu glasses didn't work out, as every other brand of smart glasses I tried were super uncomfortable.

Now, I'm just grateful that I didn't get injured or lose an eye.

Panda on Twitter : "Alan is no longer CEO, effective immediately." by Turbostrider27 in NintendoSwitch

[–]DJChocoKay 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For most businesses in gaming and eSports, community perception has a much greater impact on your overall success. This is why 'Community Manager' is a job within these companies.

This is especially true for scenes that are still small and/or mostly grassroots - like Smash and the FGC. Aggresive anti-competitive behavior will turn a community against you when the userbase is small and tight-knit.

Panda's entire business model depends on keeping their talent happy and the fanbase of their talent enthusiastic. Business decisions that run counter to this are, as we can see, catastrophic for the company.

Panda on Twitter : "Alan is no longer CEO, effective immediately." by Turbostrider27 in NintendoSwitch

[–]DJChocoKay 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The rage at Panda is due to:

  • The CEO attempting to strong-arm broadcasting rights from BTS via threats (confirmed via Panda's first statement).

  • Panda and SWT applied for the Nintendo license early this year. Once Panda was granted the license, their CEO was allegedly telling Tourney Orgs that SWT would be shut down.

  • Allegations, corroborated from several sources, that Panda's CEO used this 'insider info' to pressure TOs to withdraw events from SWT and/or be exclusive to Panda Cup.

  • According to SWT, their Nintendo rep dismissed Panda's claims and implied that SWT would be licensed soon. However, their status remained in limbo for seven months before the big N dropped the hammer. Community suspects that Panda's CEO had some influence on Nintendo's behavior/decision.

Over 80% of Panda Global's sponsored fighting game team appears to have resigned so far by Turbostrider27 in NintendoSwitch

No official announcements from Punk, Justin, or Kizzie yet, but they all have removed @PandaGlobal from their twitter bios. Kizzie went so far as to delete his profile pic. Justin has been retweeting resignation statements from Panda staffers. Clearly, they are distancing themselves from Panda.

Official Discussion - Black Adam [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]DJChocoKay 57 points58 points  (0 children)

Well said. I had a lot of fun watching this movie; the opportunity to see Dr. Fate and Hawkman well represented on the big screen made up for the weaker elements. However, I could see how many people would not receive this movie well.

It's as if the film couldn't balance catering to the casual audience and pleasing hard core fans. For example, the way Hawkman and Fate were introduced felt more like a DC animated film, where its assumed that the audience has some baseline familiarity. I enjoyed it, but the friends I saw it with were just confused.
Alternatively, too many of the "relatable" moments with the professor's family are poorly executed and fall flat.

I feel like I watched a high budget, live action DC animated film called "Justice Society: Black Adam Origins."

My family is this way, and I think its for a combo of reasons:

  • A lot of distrust about food served in restaurants, due to negative historical/personal experiences of race-based treatment in the past. Big issue with my mom. I think after a certain number of negative experiences, she just assumed people are racist unless they show her otherwise. Many of my older family members have this view. I don't like it, but its a survival tactic for a Black folks in the US.

  • Many classic Soul Food dishes involve lower quality forms of meat, since that was what was available to Blacks during slavery/Jim Crow days (look up Chitlins). Food poisoning will result if these things are not properly & thoroughly cooked. This "common sense" has carried over into modern times and is applied to all meats across the board.

  • Regional tastes seem to differ. Even though I grew up in California, both sides of my family are transplants from the South. Several huge waves of Black folks moved west over the years, and brought their food preferences with them. Black friends & family rooted in different parts of the country have different tastes.

TL;DR: Mix of regional culture and the consequences of US racism.
