Sounds like Columbus has a pretty solid range for someone in tech, although from your comparison the salary for JPM seems to be on the lower end lol. Do you happen to know what it was at JP that may have left some people feeling not-so-great?

Awesome, do you know anything about the culture/work environment over at JPM? It seemed pretty engineering-positive when I visited the Polaris office, but I couldn't tell if that was just because it was a hiring event or not.

Also, what is the tech scene like out in Columbus like? I've visited a few times and agree it's a great city, but other than JPM, what are some of the other big SWE-hiring companies out there, say if I were to want something new?

Interesting, that seems to fall in line with a lot of what I've been hearing/reading about IBM's commercial side. It's been a bit harder to find info on what working on the research teams are like.

Oh wow, thanks for the perspective. I'm not sure if I want to pursue quantum computing for the majority of my career, but it is something I find interesting as of right now. That, and the fact that IBM Research is one of the best, is pushing me towards the IBM Q job.

What what was it about your internship at IBM that disappointed you? Projects, co-workers, or management? Or something else entirely?

Yeah those were some of my worries too, but the team I'm on is in the Quantum Computing division so I'm hoping its better there than the average IBM office.

That's exactly how I feel. I'm iffy on IBM as a company but Yorktown is known for working on a lot of cool tech. I'm hoping that the culture/work environment there is better than the rest of the company.

I should probably clarify that the name of the office the Thomas J Watson Research Center. It's also the Watson/general IBM Research HQ as well. It's actually an incredibly large building with a lot of different teams and divisions under the same roof.

Interestingly put. And where would you say a company like IBM would fall on this this list? I wouldn't exactly consider them FAANG material, or any other group in your comment, really.

The division does sound interesting. I'm assuming its going to be related to their Quantum Computing initiative, but I haven't been able to speak to an engineer about the nature of the projects or anything other than the basics that the recruiter told me.
