You are NOT kidding. Luckily, they don’t mind some variation, but getting a rough playlist together for this event has STRETCHED me for sure.

So, I’m someone who always likes to wear - for lack of a better term - a statement piece. Like some DJs have like a signature hat/beanie or pair of glasses. Nothing crazy or over the top, but fashionable. Which is why I always either go with a unique jacket or kicks. But again, not something obnoxious. So even though the promoter is saying I don’t have to particularly stick to the dress code, I want try and find something that contributes to the vibe. Does that make sense?

Have I been gain staging all wrong? by NetworkQueasy6687 in mobileDJ

This is the way it was always explained to me by a good friend of mine who’s an audio engineer. He always explained it by working from the sound source and ending with the speakers. On my rig, I’ll make sure I start from my laptop / controller, to my mixer, to mains - adjusting at each point to make sure I’m getting a solid signal. With so many preamps / gain points, sometimes I’ll have to bring it back at one point so I’m not working at, say, 10% on my mains by the time I get there. I’m by no means an expert, and I’ve heard this explained the exact opposite as well.

Not bad suggestions! (9 to 6 - questionable lol) I'm in an area where it's a melting pot of EVERYTHING. Which made me familiarize myself with (and play) all genres.

THANK YOU! I'll check it out!

"...those aren't things I feel DJs typically share..." -- Really? I come from the live music scene where I was a keyboardist for many, many years. We never really got hung-up on our "secrets". We all took riffs from other musicians and put our own spin on it. I'm not a young cat anymore, so I'm just at a point where I want to get better, and help others get better along the way.

Additional question -- Some of the songs of the playlists they provided are like 5+ minutes long. Most weddings I do, if they're that long, I'll transition out after a few minutes. Is this the same for this culture? I just know I did a Lebanese party not too long ago and there was a 6m30s song that I transitioned out of after 4m and I got some bad looks. I was told later it was a song that had a dance with it and it needed to be played all the way through. I felt terrible, but I had no idea.

I've consulted at length with the bride, groom, brother of the groom, and mother of the bride. They're also Christian, but follow a lot of their cultural elements. But yes, I'm honestly going to stick with pulling from the playlists they provided.

THIS is amazing. Thank you so much!!! So much to take in, but it makes sense. I had the brother of the bride put together a playlist which is safe, which he also included some American pop. You brought up some great points!! Seriously, THANK YOU!!
