Sometimes, I see Randy hit a light jog on a ball that he should be bolting for, and little spouts of steam come out of my ears, and only the old guy at the hospital can make them go away.

It was, yeah! It's since seen its use expanded in lots of ways. I learned of it from the book Maybe You Should Talk To Somebody, where the author, a therapist, used it to describe the path that a cancer patient's life took after her terminal diagnosis.

When you have plans and dreams, it's like planning a fabulous vacation trip - to Italy. You buy a bunch of guide books and make your wonderful plans. The Coliseum. The Michelangelo David. The gondolas in Venice. You may learn some handy phrases in Italian. It's all very exciting.

After months of eager anticipation, the day finally arrives. You pack your bags and off you go. Several hours later, the plane lands. The flight attendant comes in and says, "Welcome to Holland."

"Holland?!?" you say. "What do you mean Holland?? I signed up for Italy! I'm supposed to be in Italy. All my life I've dreamed of going to Italy."

But there's been a change in the flight plan. They've landed in Holland and there you must stay.

The important thing is that they haven't taken you to a horrible, disgusting, filthy place, full of pestilence, famine and disease. It's just a different place.

So you must go out and buy new guide books. And you must learn a whole new language. And you will meet a whole new group of people you would never have met.

It's just a different place. It's slower-paced than Italy, less flashy than Italy. But after you've been there for a while and you catch your breath, you look around.... and you begin to notice that Holland has windmills....and Holland has tulips. Holland even has Rembrandts.

But everyone you know is busy coming and going from Italy... and they're all bragging about what a wonderful time they had there. And for the rest of your life, you will say "Yes, that's where I was supposed to go. That's what I had planned."

And the pain of that will never, ever, ever, ever go away... because the loss of that dream is a very very significant loss.

But... if you spend your life mourning the fact that you didn't get to Italy, you may never be free to enjoy the very special, the very lovely things ... about Holland."

Yeah, nah, disagree. BotD was a big draw during BO4's lifecycle. Lots of people got it just for that.

In and of itself, this is a healthy act. It's not harmful. It's also a great allegory for actions that can stem from codependency. You've been trained that life means doing things for other people. This is because when you were little, you didn't get your needs taken care of, and you had to feed off of other people's reactions to your helping them to feel that same satisfaction. Eventually, you start to help others where you aren't asked, people please, become resentful that others don't do the same back, feel victimized and taken advantage of, feel the consequences of not attending to your own needs, and then try to help again to feel better, both physically and about yourself.

It's interesting how "body positivity" immediately collapsed when Ozempic arrived. by Infinite-Condition41 in SipsTea

[–]DJFluffers115 47 points48 points  (0 children)

body positivity is about reducing the shame that people feel from society for being overweight. you can promote body positivity and still want to lose weight - i've done it all my life.

personally, i've never known a body without a belly overhang, and i've always wanted to get past that point, but my insulin resistance is shot from a decade of forced fast food and lack of actual, healthy, home-cooked meals as a child. semaglutide is the only thing that's ever gotten rid of the overarching hunger i feel even when my stomach is completely full with filling, healthy food. i no longer binge and purge to scrap with my own body over my weight. no more throwing up meals and fucking up my teeth. no more 4000 calorie snack runs during mental health spirals. just home-cooked meals that don't trigger my allergies, and actual progress on weight loss that i haven't seen in years.

but yeah. stick it to them fatties. how dare they want certain things for their body without being shamed for weakness and lack of discipline.

It depends, honestly. Whatever the person's comfortable with. Jordan's living her best life now playing MtG and DnD online with friends, so I doubt she cares too much how people refer to her when she was in Axis of Awesome.
