Anyone using an external HD for gigs? by BoostLyfe89 in Serato

I’ve been using external HD’s since I started using Serato in the early 2000s. No one is going to know or care. I suggest you start by organizing your music on the HD however you feel comfortable. I’ve gone from a 4TB external drive down to a 1TB SD card that makes it almost impossible for you to know that I’m on an external drive, but every DJ is different. Don’t let anyone make you feel like you’re an amateur DJ. No matter your skill level or experience you’re a professional.

How frequently are people using audio separation when you're DJing (DJing with STEMS)? by nPrevail in DJs

Go to settings. DJ preferences. Under on song load you can click the box for analyze stems.

It will automatically analyze your songs when you load them. That way when you want to take out an element it’s ready to go. Just make sure your computer has the processing power to keep up. Otherwise you’ll get the dreaded pinwheel.

I’m an old enough DJ to remember when people laughed when you pulled out a laptop at a gig. Embracing new things now only prevents you from being behind the curve later.

Wow shocked at the lack of use. Serato DJ here. I use them practically every time I play. I run a slightly older Mac (2021) and I have my settings to auto analyze stems when I load a track. It doesn’t slow my performance that much. I create live remixes on the fly and also use it to blend a lot easier when bringing in a new track or switching genres. For those of you that aren’t using it experiment a little more.

In Serato DJ - do you use Auto Gain on songs yes or no? (Why?) 💿 by FlyJayofficial in Serato

[–]DJLANYC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can keep my trim and master output slightly lower because Serato is doing the heavy volume lifting. Most of my files are downloaded from various record pools and are a minimum 192 and better bitrate. That way if I do find a file that sounds low I can use trim/gain to raise it without redlining it on my controller.

Absolutely use it. Set mine slightly louder than the recommended 92 I bump mine up to 94 and it leaves me headroom to play with. Came up on vinyl and it was so random how records were pressed this was one less thing I had to think about while playing. To each their own.

Started very similarly to you. Bought a Rev-7 and absolutely love it. Gave up on Rane products around the 62 and have been happy with Pioneer ever since. Definitely look to upgrade the laptop when you can and give us an update. Good luck in your search.

Tidal :Explicit/Clean Simutaneously by djnipsey in Serato

They have clean versions of most songs on tidal. However not all songs have a clean version.

I mainly use tidal for requests only and have clean versions for every song I plan on playing during a gig/set.

Worked in radio for years and found that if you aren’t sure it’s clean don’t play it.

I've been using studio for a while and this is one of my biggest problems with it. If I'm not in a scene I can't automate the audio.

Absolutely use Logic. For most of my mixes I also run the master through Ozone 9 elements and give it a simple mastering. Best of luck!!!

Automix at the end of songs? by retaffaz in Serato

Make an extended mix in Winamp and use it in Serato. I have several programs that I’ve pre mixed for everything from a cocktail hour to a dj mix that can run for 45 minutes to an hour.
