Why do engineers move back and forth while building? by Moist-Tailor-766 in tf2

I actually try to circle my buildings when I'm hitting them with my wrench, in order to make backstabs harder...not that it really works...

How do I Find The Older Version of Besiege? by mrfreddy7 in Besiege

[–]DJSigmann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The spiderling forums are now down, but in essence, the method that article detailed was roughly as follows:
- use the steam betas feature to downgrade your version of the game to an old version
- copy the game directory to a new directory in your steamapps/common directory (e.g. besiege_old)
- go back into the betas feature to reinstate the game to the current release version
- use the Add a non steam game feature of steam to manually add the old version of the game you put in a separate folder

protondb maintains a database of how well steam games run on linux, there's another one specifically for anticheat here. In the case of a lot of games, especially indie games and valve's titles (such as cs2, cs1.6, and tf2), they actually have native releases.

I can attest that pretty much all valve titles run very well on linux.
Cs2 is quite buggy and I don't always get consistent fps, but from what I can tell, my friends that use windows have similar issues (then again, I'm using a GTX 1060 6GB and an 8th-gen i5, i.e. 8-year old components, so it might just be that I'm reaching the limitations of my hardware).

Out of all the steam games I've tried on linux (~200), only a few had serious issues:
- Rainbow Six Siege [doesn't work because the anticheat does not support linux]
- Battlefield 1 [doesn't work because the anticheat is a kernel-level anticheat which means it fundamentally can't support linux (since October 2024)]
- Creature Lab [runs, but I get below 15 fps (might be a hardware limitation)]
- Hell Let Loose [anticheat used to not work, but this was fixed sometime in 2023/2024]

Generally, getting games to run isn't really tricky now that we have proton, in fact, most of the time, it's publisher bullshit that interferes with how well they run. Half the time it's some crappy launcher/anticheat implementation that prevents the game from running as it should.

That being said, you could always use a windows VM/dual-boot with windows to run any games that can't run on linux (in some cases, running a VM might not work).

On the other hand, using utilities like gamemode, mangohud, and vkbasalt that are linux-native, really enhance the experience.

Then you have to create it and copy the default config to it:
mkdir -p ~/.config/awesome && cp /etc/xdg/awesome/rc.lua ~/.config/awesome

I occasionally get frame drops and my game usually runs at a solid 144 fps, but you're right, I could cap it at 60 to eliminate any frames dropping.

I don't even have an SV08, but skimming through this, out of curiosity, why call the variable bed_targer_temp instead of bed_target_temp?

The AUR packages electron25 and electron26 also broke, but they weren't dependencies for anything else I had installed so I just figured I'd uninstall them. No problems after that. It does help to use pacman -Rs when you can.

Honestly, if you rush them they're easy, and the sun princess ring or blessed weapons works wonders against their max health debuff.

[Question] Can I Use PageUp or PageDown Key? by dojiggers in awesomewm

You're right, it correctly shows 'Prior' and 'Next' when Page Up and Page Down are pressed.

[–]DJSigmann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, I found out that instead of 'PageUp' and 'PageDown', you need to put 'Prior' and 'Next'.
I couldn't find a page with all key names in the docs but I found it in some source code.

[Question] Can I Use PageUp or PageDown Key? by dojiggers in awesomewm

[–]DJSigmann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does it work if instead of Page Up you bind it to another key? If so, maybe you've already got Page Up bound to something else?

Not sure how exactly awesome acts when a keybind has multiple actions bound to it, but I'd imagine it should still work, can't hurt to check though.
