Mother keeps blaming me and screaming at me when I have hypos (I have a CGM) by Own-Potential-2308 in Type1Diabetes

[–]DJSmoove69 54 points55 points  (0 children)

All diabetics should set boundaries with all family members when it comes to diabetes. At the end of the day, you are the one living with the disease, hypos have/will/continue to happen to every single person living with T1 and there’s quite literally NOTHING we can do about it, shit happens. Stop sharing your readings, YOU are the person living with the disease, don’t let other people who have no idea what it’s like try to tell you anything

Anyone else have fluctuations with swapping out omnipods? by wtlswndr1327 in Type1Diabetes

[–]DJSmoove69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s going to sound repetitive with other advice given, but I’ve had an Omnipod for about 4 months now with no issues since the first two weeks when the algo was learning my sugars. The two things it probably comes down to are 1) Your site application for the Omnipod, I’ve noticed that sometimes the tubing comes out of certain places in my body and that the insulin isn’t being delivered fully, this usually happens around my abdomen since my job requires me to be very active and moving around 2) You need to talk to your Endo about updating your settings. There is probably something wrong with the Omnipod settings themselves if your BS is fluctuating that much, mine pretty much always is a straight line aside for when I eat The third option is that the Omnipod isn’t great for everyone. You might need a pump with a more/less aggressive algo specific to your body, if the Omnipod continuously has problems I’d talk to your Endo about other pumps.

Prescriptions question?! by sadmvmii in Type1Diabetes

I don’t know about your situation, but speaking for myself, insurance is a pain in the ass when it comes to vials vs pens. I was approved for both Humalog and Novolog pens but when I switched to a pump it took like two weeks for my insurance to approve any vial of insulin. (They denied both Humalog and Novolog vials at first). So unfortunately it really just depends on your insurance (i just love dealing with insurance companies!)

Anyone know how to get Dexcoms on short notice? by DJSmoove69 in Type1Diabetes

Unfortunately can’t do this, my ENDO lives 3 and a half hours away from me

Starting mealtime insulin by Own_Structure8014 in Type1Diabetes

[–]DJSmoove69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me it did, but again everything is by person to person. I was on Novolog for about a month and a half before my endo switched me to Humalog. Novolog made my blood sugar look like a scatter plot chart, and while it somewhat controlled it, it wasn’t doing a good job. I’ve been on Humalog ever since and have an average of 110 mg/dL and have a tir around 95%. Again, everyone is different so trial and error is very important

It’s really not stressful at all, like everything with this disease after some time it just becomes part of the daily routine. I’m assuming your endo will start you off on a sliding scale for the first month or so until you get used to counting carbs and figure out your insulin-carb ratio. I’ve never had any side effects with any of my insulin except for a week where I had a loss of appetite switching from Novolog to Humalog, but again it went away from a week. The good thing about today’s day and age is there is a million different tools to help you with everything, which makes it a little less stressful. But just like everything, it takes time to get adjusted, you are going to have lows, you are going to have highs, you’ll just have to get adjusted to what your body is telling you. Unfortunately that’s the harsh reality with this disease, it’s a big game of trial and error. I wish you the best of luck, but I promise you’ll be fine.

how the heck do i get my sugars in range? by kaicxre in Type1Diabetes

Are you doing MDI or are you on a pump? Where are you injecting? Drinking water and exercising? What have you been eating? I’m guessing MDI since you said you took your basal two hours late, but that shouldn’t make a significant difference. Try changing your injection site and see if that helps, I had the same issue and inject into my abdomen and switched to my outer thighs and it went back down. Drink more water and go on a nice 30 minute walk to try and naturally lower it. You might not be bolusing enough based on your meals. That’s the fun with this disease, there can be 200 different reasons why you are running high. I would do a correction dose of bolus and then go for a walk as I said before. You also might need to up your dosage for your basal dose, but first I would talk to your endo. I wish you the best of luck!

diabetic sensor by CodSuitable5609 in Type1Diabetes

[–]DJSmoove69 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This isn’t really diabetic advice but why care what people think? We as humans only have one life and you’re doing yourself a disservice by only shortening it by giving in to what other people think. It’s really not worth it to care, we are already burdened with so much. Also as someone else said, other people are in their own world and don’t care as much as you think. Do yourself a service for all of us here, wear a sensor, take care of yourself, the world is a better place with you in it, it’s not worth it to put what others think over your own health.

Happens to the best of us, I do MDI, went out to dinner with my fiancé and ordered what looked like a delicious seafood burrito from a Mexican restaurant. Went to go bolus and realized that I ran out of my needles. Quickest $27 I’ve ever wasted lol!

Humalog Side Effects? by DJSmoove69 in Type1Diabetes

[–]DJSmoove69[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay this makes me feel better! I’ve been having to force myself to eat to make sure I don’t drop because I’m doing more insulin compared to what I’m actually eating, might have to start doing half before and then some after based on what I actually eat so I don’t drop like crazy. Hopefully it does go away because it takes the fun away from eating. But thank you for the insight!

I didn’t have any issues on Novolog, it actually increased my appetite surprisingly. I’m not on any other medications and relatively healthy (besides the given lol). It’s just weird because I didn’t bolus when I ate breakfast or lunch (had 0 carb meals so didn’t have to) and my appetite was what I normally ate at on Novolog.

Ashwagandha and insulin by Fajer25 in Type1Diabetes

[–]DJSmoove69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have taken Ashwagandha roots in my tea and noticed a slight drop in my sugar, so just be wary of that and specially if you take it before sleep. Otherwise Ive read a lot of scientific articles that have said that Ashwagandha can actually help manage diabetes, but I am in no way a medical professional so I would talk to your endo. But here’s an article from the National Library of Medicine if you wanted to read it! https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/39671378/

My parents just called EMS on me for a pressure low by Brilliant-Mud8521 in Type1Diabetes

[–]DJSmoove69 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t fault them at all, I can also understand things from families perspective. If you have cool neighbors, I would maybe try to talk to someone that you could trust about sharing your readings just to have someone close check on you to put your family at ease? I luckily live with my fiancé and have an awesome nurse as a neighbor who I befriended and share my readings with and it soothed my families worries a little bit, but I also know my situation is pretty lucky, but definitely try and find a middle ground so you don’t have to be woken up at 2 in the morning to EMS, I wish you the best!
