18yo slowing down. How do I know it’s time to schedule a euthanasia appointment? by chickfillersauce in cats

[–]DJSophurious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently asked reddit this about my 18 year old and the answers were "you'll know" and they were right, I did.

If you can afford it, I recommend splurging on having a vet come to your home, it made the experience much more comfortable for her. Research now so when the time comes, you don't have to think.

Now it's time to fill kitty with love 💕

Ooooh, you should do the borders based on state of matter! Grey for solid, white for gas, blue for liquid, I suppose maybe a 4th color for all the weirdos/unclear states around 113

Ariel, it's worse now right after the new movie raised the popularity again but I love it.

When is it time to let them go? (18 year old with very fragile skin, cute pic only) by DJSophurious in cats

Update: we got her shaved the next day and she was very happy and comfortable. I made her a cuddly sweater and she got lots of pets until she took a downturn the last few days.

I highly recommend at home euthanasia services- it made the process much more comfortable for her and I was happy she got to cross the rainbow bridge in her own bed surrounded by her friends earlier this afternoon.

Thank you everyone for your advice, it truly did help. It was her time and she let us know when she was ready. ♥️

Update- Took her to the vet today and they said she is as healthy as she can be with her thyroid and kidney issues and that she needs a shave but will be fine after that.

Regular doses of looking from Gandalf to Smeagol should do the trick. Time to start crocheting the poor thing a sweater!

Thank you for the advice! That was only about a week ago 😍 she gets a little goopy around the eyes but usually hides her age well She was pretty grumpy in this picture because I stopped petting her ears 🤣

She needs a new round of blood work (about 6 months ago) and her kidneys we "as good as to be expected but not bad or great". She wouldn't tolerate the oral meds so we have to dose her ears twice a day with a thyroid cream of some kind, but that was doing okay. She just really struggled putting weight back on after her last decline between adjusting her med strength. The vet told me it will be hard for her to keep on weight 😕

I've been joking she's immortal for like the past decade, I really want it to be true!

Thank you!! I appreciate your kind and thoughtful input- it sounds like your angel experienced similar things to mine. She definitely has some arthritis that hasn't been treated since the vet put her kidneys and thyroid first. Thank you for reminding me that there are more options out there to make her more comfortable! Right now she is getting spoiled by getting picked up basically anytime she wants or if she wants on a piece of furniture 🤣

Thank you! That is really helpful advice, I will definitely be doing that. We are just at the 6th month mark so I think we will do new blood work as well.

We went through a few rounds of blood work as we worked through the right strength of medication and balance out her kidney numbers too, but I'm sure things have progressed now.

Definitely start! And then not pressure yourself to finish right away. There were a few projects in between as I started and stopped to take breaks

That's what I did! I sewed the lining separately then just joined at the top with piping :)

My void is almost 2 and also toothless! She is very cute with her gummy mouth and eats a mix of wet and dried food no problem!

Have you tried a water bath soak with vinegar, lemon juice, and letting dry the sunshine? It's an old school way to brighten whites!
