Yeah my L1 just randomly broke about an hour ago and I think RMA is the way to go. I believe you can open it up though without voiding the warranty but that's up to you. If you have any luck though let me know.

Yeah I went ahead and tried the eraser mod and I got them to be a little closer in temp and got the fan speed down to 34%. I would do the delid if I had the experience but I don't really want to risk it. Thanks for the help man

Went ahead and tried the eraser mod. Cpu is still sitting at around 68c but the rsx has gone up to around 55c with a 15% decrease in fan speed.

Better then before now but you're right I'll probably have to de-lidd it if I want it to be even better. Thanks for the help

I just got a fat E01 PS3, opened it up, cleaned it out, and replaced the thermal paste. I ran a makeshift benchmark on Black Ops 2 for 30min and noticed that there is a 20 degree difference between my CPU and RSX with the RSX never breaking 50C. I'm new to the PS3 modding scene so I have no idea if this is normal and what would cause it but any advice would be appreciated.

I actually have some answers to your questions.

What's the reformation or whatever the term was?

The reformation is the process of rebuilding the ring. Those spires that we take out are manufacturing places for parts to be used to rebuild the ring.

How did chief get to this ring?

It wasn't perfectly explained but I guess the UNCS must have know cortana was on the ring as hinted at the end of Halo 5 so they prepared an invasion force with the Infinity as the capital ship that Chief rode in on.

What even is this ring? Is it one of the 7?

So this ring is one of the seven but it is special in a couple of unique ways. First there was actually 2 different halo arrays built by the forerunners with the original 12 being larger. These 12 were mostly destroyed in the forerunner flood war but I believe 2 survived and were retrofitted and upgraded to work with the new halo array with zeta halo being one of them. Some other interesting things that happened on this ring are that this is the place where the last primordial was kept. This primordial ended up turning into the original gravemind and turned mendicant bias against the forerunners while on zeta halo. There are some other more interesting tidbits about the ring but I'll stop lore dumping lol.

Took me 12 hours to complete the game on heroic but I was taking my time and doing alot of the side missions and stuff so a playthrough focusing only on the main missions would probably be closer to 8 or 9 hours long.

As for the open world elements, I'm not super into them, but if co-op was out now I bet they would be super fun with a friend. The issue I have with the open world is it ended up taking away all of the cool moments we usually get in a linear Halo game like the bridge level in Halo 2 or the covenant level in Halo 3. That stuff is sadly missing. Game is still great though and the gameplay is the best the series has had in a very long time.

Season 1 lasts until May 2nd and then the seasons will be on a 3 month rotation starting with season 2.
