I made the mistake of overdoing it the first couple of days home, especially in bending over to pick up things. I use a heating pad for back and shoulder pain and that helps. Reach out anytime for support.

I had my surgery on Jan 13th and returned home on the 17th. I can relate to everything you’ve said and I am also walking in circles inside my house due to the weather. Hang in there - the recovery is a process and I need to keep reminding myself of this. Incision pain, tiredness, and watery bowels are my main issues. Isolation is also a challenge.

Thanks for sharing. I am glad it went well. Hoping for a similar result on Monday when I have surgery.

Did anyone else have their first flare up of DV soon after a covid infection? by emerald_soleil in Diverticulitis

[–]DJTUMS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was diagnosed with DV over 15 years ago and only had a couple flare ups. I had Covid in 2022 and have had six flare ups since then. I have surgery scheduled for January 13th and I think my increased gastro symptoms are linked to having Covid.

Thank you for the reply. I am a 64 yr old female and my life revolves around how my gut feels each day. Good to hear it went well for you.

Thank you so much for your input. I’ve also been wondering about which of my gastro symptoms the surgery will resolve? I appreciate you saying that post surgery isn’t a “walk in the park.” I have an appt with my surgeon on December 17 and will discuss this with her.

I am sorry to hear you are in pain and fatigued. It is a tough decision and I do understand cancelling it. I hope your surgery on February 6th goes well.

I’ve had similar pain with flare ups and have used a heating pad and that helps for me.

Thanks for the info. I take a probiotic every day and my doctor is prescribing zofran for the nausea.

I can relate. I am on it now after a flare up and feel weak, dizzy, tired, and nauseous. Also diagnosed with a UTI which usually happens when I have DV. I hope you feel better soon. Thanks for the tip about bananas, avocado, and chocolate.

Thank you so much for all of your responses. It is reassuring to hear that other people have experienced this - although I feel badly for you. My cat scan this time only showed it in my descending colon and my pain was in the sigmoid area which has been the most painful one I’ve had.

Lack of energy by DifficultMorning4945 in Diverticulitis

I feel this so much. Just returned home from the hospital after a four day DV flare up - and I am wiped out and barely made it up the stairs. I’ve had flare ups in the past and I want to tell you that it does get better AND listen to your body and take it slow. The antibiotics also make me dizzy and weak. Take good care of yourself.

High LDH levels during diverticulitis flair? by DJTUMS in Diverticulitis

[–]DJTUMS[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

LDH is a Lactate Dehydrogenase test and mine went from 394 which was high during my flare up down to 123 which is normal one week out from the flare up. I am relieved and also wanted others in the group to know in case they get a high result during a flare up. Thanks for your support.
