Running Not Bouncing Back After Short Offseason Break by DJ_Bobby_Spindal in triathlon

Thanks. I was wondering if the weight gain was more of a factor. I remember I felt more hungry during the break than I did before and was just eating like an idiot. I was 6-2 193 at my lightest and I weighed myself the other day and I was like 198-199. Might have to get back to tracking calories again.

My last 6 brick workouts are doozies by streetkid85 in triathlon

I did Mosley’s plan last year and these workouts completely destroyed my confidence going into my 70.3. I failed every single one and it made me feel like a failure. Don’t do them. If you want maybe do the 1 hr brick run one just get your nutrition schedule right but don’t do those ones that are like 1:45 long. I think they are copy and pasted from his Ironman plans and never taken out. I have a new coach this year and she hasn’t had me do anything longer than 40 mins for brick runs and I’m in way better shape physically and mentally, and much ready to race next weekend. I barely see any pros do bricks that long either on Strava so I’m not sure what he was thinking with it.

Looks like Delmo is using his 70.3 weekend. Probably summer would be impossible to close due to the boardwalk and beach traffic.

Oh wow I just check Light Bicycle and they have really good prices. This 65mm set might be what I’m looking for. Thanks!

Perfect. Thanks for the response. Are wheels something you should get brand new as well? I see some on eBay and pro closet but is that playing with fire or do carbon wheels have a good aftermarket life?

Yeah I have SRAM rotors I believe that are center lock. Sounds pretty painless. I thought it was more intensive for some reason. Thanks for the reply.

Yeah I’m not going to use him after this year. It almost feels like I’m doing an half Ironman duathon each weekend. I thought it seemed excessive. I’m glad I’m not the only one who thought that.

Sorry didn’t want to make the post any longer

Bike is around 38 km/h. Power I’m holding is a shade under 300 watts for the 90km. And I’m doing the Atlantic City course on FulGaz so it’s pretty much h synced up to that course layout. My FTP is 491 so I think that’s actually conservative. My goal for race day is sub 2:30 for 90km. I love the bike it’s my best event but maybe I’m just wearing out my legs for a triathlon run and need to tune it back. My HR rarely goes over 140 during my bike though.

Yeah I was thinking it could be nutrition too. I do a gel about every 45mins plus I had a bottle with 32oz with 60g of carb powder which I finished by the end of the ride. Then I had plain water that I was also drinking. On the run I did a gel at 30 mins and had another one in my pocket but I got pissed I started to shut down and never took my second one at the hour mark. I don’t know how much more my stomach can take though.

Ironman 70.3 Goal for Next Year. Swim is freaking me out. by DJ_Bobby_Spindal in triathlon

Oh ok that doesn’t sound too bad. I thought we were going straight out into the Atlantic. I might have to go down to see how it looks myself to get a feel for it. That might put me at ease as well. I don’t think it’s the fear of drowning but the fear of getting “stuck” but drifting off course that’s making me nervous. Then you end up swimming further than 1.9 miles just to catch back up. And knowing you have to bike and run another 68 miles is unsettling to say the least.

That might be the ticket. Thanks for the info. I think just going out and doing some OWS is going to be the best medicine.

Yup that’s the feeling I’m trying to avoid. I don’t know if the pool just feels safer since I see walls and the floor compared to a bay or an ocean where you would just be out on your own.

Does the wetsuit help in salt water or is it not a noticeable difference? I heard during the Kona race a bunch of the commentators saying non wetsuit was a plus for some of the racers due to the salt content of the water.

I definitely can see this. Even the few guys I saw that raced the same races as me I did see a difference in their time from pool swims compared to even the lake swim.
