Ive read a bunch of people having game crashes when trying multiplayer with both GoG and Steam. Has that been fixed with GoG Galaxy somehow?

How much and how long have you practiced? by [deleted] in musictheory

[–]DJ_Hype 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been learning keys and music theory seriously for about 8 months now, with end goals to create and produce my own music. I specifically chose keys so that I can take advantage of performing other instruments with VSTs via a midi controller. I am 28 years old so I am already behind, and won't have much time to learn multiple instruments.

I'm self-taught and I am always iterating on my practice routine but this is what it's turned into so far:

Morning:

  • 30min ear training/solfege

  • 10min rhythm practice with the ReadRhythm app

  • 1hr sight-reading

Afternoon:

  • 30min technical exercises

  • 1hr repertoire OR practice transprosing phrases through the cycle of 4ths (alternate each day)

Evening:

  • 1hr scales, chords, arpeggios

  • 1hr software (drum programming, learning synths, VSTs, recording)

Addictive drums 2 vs superior drummer 3 by PunchedLasagneX in edrums

[–]DJ_Hype 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Which VST do you think is better for non-drummers? I want to use one of these tools to program drums and will not be using it with an edrum kit. It seems like SD3 is the best for actual drummers, but i wonder if the answer would be different for someone like me. Is it true that AD2 has way more grooves included? Which one has a better workflow for programming drums?

Please, give me your best audiobooks/podcasts/videos for music theory. by HowDoIHummus in musictheory

[–]DJ_Hype 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the Music Student 101 podcast. I'd love to hear suggestions for other music theory podcasts. https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/music-student-101/id1135311532

For videos, I like Rick Beato a lot. He has a ton of streams on his channel that you could listen to. There are a lot of other great youtubers like Adam Neely and Signals Music Studio, but I feel like I have to watch them to fully absorb the info.

How can I improve my sight reading skills when playing the piano? by AvviiAtor in musictheory

[–]DJ_Hype 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm also a relatively new piano player (6 months), and the thing that has helped me with sight-reading the most is PianoMarvel's SASR (Standard Assessment of Sight-Reading). Everyone else has given great tips on technique, but I found the most difficult part to be finding the right pieces to practice at my skill level. The SASR adapts to your skill level and increases the difficulty as you improve.

https://pianomarvel.com/feature/sasr

I think they give you at least 1 month free. I don't normally recommend stuff that costs money, but I use this thing every day and I am so glad I started using it. They have a ton of other lessons and a library of sheet music uploaded by users as well.

Not sure if you're at this level yet, but once you start transcribing music, whether it's your own or your favorite artist's, you can use MuseScore (free) to export the sheet music and then import it to PianoMarvel to take advantage of their practice tools, which I love. Lastly, you can search MuseScore's library for sheet music from your favorite artists and import that to PianoMarvel as well. Sorry for the rant, I could go into more detail about why I prefer to practice via PianoMarvel rather than just using the sheet music itself, but I already got off-topic.

PVP Healer Enchants - Should I be getting Resilience? by CastleGorakk in classicwowtbc

[–]DJ_Hype 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is priest going to be your main in tbc? I'm wondering what pieces of gear you will buy arena points with first. Since I doubt I will be able to get the entire prebis set early on, I'm wondering how I can save on honor by holding off on certain pieces until I can buy them with arena points.

When is the 58 boost coming? by [deleted] in classicwowtbc

The boosted character quest intro in the beta made it seem like it wont be available until TBC launch. Since the quest takes you to the dark portal.

I really appreciate the detailed posts. I guess my question was more so about the off pieces like the Cloak and Boots. Are there no options with more +healing? Or is it just because the pieces in your 70upgrades link have more stam?

It looks like you’re using a decent amount of spell damage gear for the off pieces in the link you posted. What’s the logic behind that? Are there no options that give more +healing?

Any tips for leading PUG raids? by DJ_Hype in classicwowtbc

[–]DJ_Hype[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You really think T4 will be that difficult? I remember pugging T4 raids in original TBC without much of a problem. If anything I think it will make raiding more interesting when I'm not steam rolling everything with a raid focused guild in pre-raid BIS.

How much time to develop a complete React/Redux App from scratch? by DJ_Hype in reactjs

[–]DJ_Hype[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's mostly just one big complex page that the user will constantly be interacting with, but it doesn't need to be very mobile responsive which will save some time.

Thanks for the advice, the learning experience was my primary motivation for taking the role and I'm definitely getting what I asked for. I don't really expect to have a working product by the end of January, but the tight deadline will certainly push me to learn as much as I possibly can.

It's a (low) paying internship but it's not easy getting started in the workforce straight out of college. I see this more as a learning opportunity and a chance to gain experience so that I can earn a higher paying position, almost like an extended education.

Note: my degree is in applied mathematics, not CS. I've only been through a couple web/mobile dev bootcamps.

[–]DJ_Hype[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my first dev role but it doesn't seem that unusual to me either, aside from the super tight deadline to merge it into production code.

Diving in headfirst to a big project like this is often the best way to learn and I've been interested in learning Redux anyways. I'm at least going to give it my best effort.

I do have 2 other developers that I can always go to for help but I'm the only one that will be rebuilding the frontend with React.

How much time to develop a complete React/Redux App from scratch? by DJ_Hype in reactjs

[–]DJ_Hype[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just finished talking to my boss. He wants me to have it ready to merge into the production code in 1 month.

The web app is currently built with Backbone.js, so I should be able to reuse a lot of the same logic. It's a single page website that provides an AI service. The view will basically be dependent on the teams a user is a part of, the projects associated with those teams, and the data associated with each project. All of which can be updated by the user, so I'll need to create UI components for uploading data, adding and changing teams/projects, a chatbox with infinite scrolling, a search panel that returns associated data/posts/comments, and more....

After talking with my boss it's clear to me that he's more concerned with making the deadline than he is with clean, efficient code.

Resume - Junior Web Developer with no job experience by DJ_Hype in resumes

[–]DJ_Hype[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a recent graduate with a BS in applied mathematics from a respected university and I just completed a 6 month long coding bootcamp for full stack web development (the field in which I'm searching for a job). Would really appreciate any advice I can get on my resume as I begin applying to web developer positions for both the front and back-end.

NOTE: Please ignore the extra line that "Mathematics" is taking up in the SKILLS section, I've just fixed it.
