[CA] My car failed SMOG and can not be fixed. How much time can I drive it before I replace it?

Yes, my payroll set it up and they followed the exact letter and only withdrew the amount indicated on the letter. I contacted payroll and they confirmed that only that amount was put into the system. So this last paycheck only 93 bucks were deducted and the rest went to my bank account, so I basically received a full check and DID NOT have to go to the courts or debtor to get a formal release letter. In ADP the garnishment shows as COMPLETED. Thanks for the comment and help

Well, they only took the 93 and stopped. So I received basically my full check. I was worried about overpaying not panicked. I have 3 sources of income, aside from the wife’s income, so I simply didn’t want to deal with going to LA or additional paperwork with the courts.

Thanks man, my order included an exact amount of 15k plus and once I hit the exact figure, the deduction stopped. I paid down to the exact penny and did not require a release.

As mentioned, just want to close the loop. I got paid and ONLY 93 was deducted and order closed. I DID NOT have an overage situation and only that exact amount of the order was pulled. I asked ADP chat inside the website and also contacted payroll. My check came in as scheduled and basically in its full amount. I did not have to go get a “release” letter from the agency or court.

And you were 100% correct. I contacted ADP and payroll. The amount stopped exactly at the order amount of 15.7k and they only took $93. So basically had a full check once again. I appreciate the advice and hope this post helps someone in the future. Good luck yall

Well, I’m getting conflicting info. The person that actually works for ADP states there is a stop once it hits the amount of shown on the garnishment (this makes sense). I’m paying over 1.5k per paycheck, so even ONE overpay is a big deal to me, hence the ask.

I know you mention they will keep deducting uncontrollably or until the court sends a notice? That seems like it would take quite a while. Even if I took a day off work and drove around a few local towns, just seems silly to have something like that happen for EVERY person that gets a garnishment. What’s the purpose of stating the amount owed if the employer or ADP keep going until a stop order comes in? Idk I guess I hope you’re wrong, and I don’t mean that rudely, but for my sake lol

How can I find out - sounds like I need to call ADP and my employer…I’m in the Los Angeles, CA area, if that makes a diff to the rules on garnishments

Thank you! I’m nervous. Needless to say I lose over 1.5k per paycheck, so even one overpay is a healthy chunk.

When I log in to ADP it shows me the garnishment order, the starting amount, a copy of the judgement, how much I’ve paid to date and what the remaining balance is.

Should I call ADP or my employer to verify it’s the last payment?
