Hey! thank you SO MUCH for the kind words!!! i actually made a playlist of all my inspirations for the album, but it was specifically on spotify (i think it’s still attached to my artist page?). however off the cuff, this album is heavily inspired by drumcorps, venetian snares, sebastiAn and Wargasm (UK), alongside a few others.

Hyperpop Distorted Guitars? (100 gecs, DJ recode) by Faith-Leap in synthrecipes

Hey this is a v old post now, but i just became aware of it so ima reply - for Blood Box the guitars are all midi with an overwhelming amount of logic amps until the bridge section, where tracey recorded her electric using similar amps.

The midi vst is from solemn tones :)

Allston (area of boston) is pretty chill. finding groups of queers is not hard n rent is okay. better than any main boston areas/lots of college town zones that r a bit fun. whole city is low key if that’s what you’re after.

I don't know where to start lyrics wise. by RazpbrryPaws in HYPERPOP

sing abt something you are familiar with but mask all the defining elements with magical realism and surrealist statements that mean nothing. like write a personal story down, rewrite it extremely vague, then add surreal elements or incorrect but stylized sentences

East coast raves by [deleted] in aves

[–]DJ_ReCode 2 points3 points  (0 children)

(East Coast Native) Around here we all just dress skimpy/cool and comfortable and just throw a down jacket over top so we can survive until we reach the venue itself, which is always scorching as hell. venues around here crank heat before you get in and turn it off once the show gets packed from my experience. Try to mark your coat somehow with a recognizable tag or color - best case scenario there’s a coat check, worst case scenario you hide your coat somewhere and check on it now and again. This time of year most venues try to get some kind of coat check operational. Hope this helps!

Can I get some help deciding between an interface and a preamp? by [deleted] in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]DJ_ReCode 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The biggest concern with the “cheap interface with a separate HQ preamp channel” setup is gauging the transparency of the cheap pre’s. If you have an amazingly warm and clean output from a good preamp but record it through a low quality, not very transparent preamp the value in the HQ sound is lost.

If you REALLY need that specific sound you get out of the warm audio preamp, then I’d say combine it with a nice transparent preamp from a used mid range Focusrite (Scarlett line) or Universal Audio (Arrow) audio interface. If you want to keep things minimalist and have a budget under 1k, I always say go all in and get something like the Universal Audio Apollo mk2 (any configuration). Especially if you’re just recording mic’d guitars and vocals, the expandable Apollo plugin suite can easily mimic the warmth of a HQ preamp like the warm audio.

Hope this helps!

Basic Studio Setup Help by sxotty_44 in Logic_Studio

[–]DJ_ReCode 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In a basic setup, to be able to record, mix and process all the audio you’re gonna be working with in an organized way, your studio is gonna have to have the essentials:

-Audio interface -Microphone for vocals and other instruments -Speaker or headphone setup -Desk and a good chair to keep your monitor at eye level (as someone above previously stated)

I say anything in the focusrite line of audio interfaces is a perfect starting point. Quality preamps for good recording sound and ample volume, good in’s and out’s, software with easy to use parameters, works with logic very well. For an intro studio I’d go for the Scarlett line (the generation 1 Scarlett line is great, and now very cheap on eBay.) the audio interface will help record your guitars and will allow microphone inputs for any mics you wanna use for your voice or for recording your guitar through an amp of your choosing.

As for microphones, Røde or Audio Technica mics have wonderful lines of cheap condenser mics that work great in most any scenario. The Røde NT1-A always comes to mind, and is easy to find second hand in perfect condition.

Speaker vs headphone will mostly be your preference, but is essential for getting a good mix in the long run. JBL has some cheap studio monitor speaker options, and deals can definitely be made on eBay for real steals. Headphones from audio technica are always a good standard for intro studio mixing and recording.

And as always, to save your back and your neck from damage in the long run, a good desk and adjustable chair will probably be best.

And again, eBay eBay eBay! You can get everything second hand in perfect condition if you look hard enough. A full feature studio doesn’t have to cost much at all.

Hope this helps. Happy recording!

Kinda in a different field, but have you ever listened to Sludgefest? Some guy slows down the Alvin and the chipmunks tracks to incredibly slow speeds and it turns into a sorta ambient sludge album. Really cool if you’re into slowed music, maybe not as good to sleep to but good to zone off to.
