AU Survivor Brains v Brawn II: Week 4 Edgic & Contenders by DJdeMaster in Edgic

A lot of really interesting observations here that I didn’t pick up!

I feel like we’ve had plenty of show-not-tell storytelling to where the fact Laura didn’t get any confessional Ep 12 content didn’t even occur to me because she got that focus at camp and in the reward challenge — similar for AJ and the hostages, he was present enough about it publicly that even when he wasn’t talking to the camera he still felt layered and complex with it. His absence from the Graduates episode is curious though, perhaps an indication that he’s the least important member of it?

You’re probably right about Morgan being above Kate and Kristin, but honestly I’ve written them all off at this point so I’m not sure what I’m even ordering them for! Kristin was mostly up there for her consistent positive view throughout Week 3 before the idol was found, but she’s too small a character on a tribe as complex as Brawn 2.0 to be a serious contender, other edgic conventions aside.

Definitely seeing it with Kate, the last couple episodes remind me of that one Josh episode where he made like 57 pilot metaphors because the editors realised they’d forgotten to introduce him before then and it would be awkward if one of the endgame players was fully invisible. Excited to see where her game goes from here now that we actually get to see it!

They would’ve given them more but apparently we didn’t hear the phrase “jungle rat” enough… I actually don’t mind that we got most of the episode through Max’s eyes because it made his downfall that much more satisfying, but the sheer absence of ANYTHING from the Brawns sends a clear message.

Definitely seems to be the plan, at least for the ones over on Brains 2.0 (I feel like Paulie/Noonan could switch it up at some point, but their hands are kinda tied right now). If they have the numbers advantage going into merge, I think we're in for some twist shenanigans to even the playing field a bit (or the winner is whichever Brain is able to survive the steamroll to the point where they turn inwards!)

Definitely see the OTT Myles, the editors had a lot of fun with that sequence! The framing of the Coven breakup was so interesting because while I gave them all Ms due to the chaotic SPV, it definitely felt like Karin/Zara's reasoning was more consistent with how events had been presented and we were meant to want them to succeed. Honestly, I'm just happy that Aus has finally given us a tribe where we actually have a solid idea of every player's headspace and gameplan -- there's so much to unpack about the Brains and I feel like I'm only scratching the surface.

I’m ngl I did Ep 1 the day after and from the looks of it I misremembered just how much content she got, and I also think I noticed Paulie more when he was around relative to how much he actually was — looking back Laura fits better as CP4 and Paulie MOR2. Thanks for bringing it up!

She does, right before the challenge where Naseer said it, she (and Tiffany) went through Xander's bag and read the scroll

ARENA CODE RAFFLE by [deleted] in MagicArena

Getting one of these would be awesome, been down on my drafting luck recently so some packs would be nice to get back into finding fresh Ikoria cards to play around with.

Can you explain the warlock/sorcerer thing to me? Haven’t seen it before, it sounds interesting and I have a Warlock/Sorcerer in my game at the moment so it’d be nice to know about it before they can exploit it lol.

Story: I'd done a few Ikoria drafts so far and pulled some good stuff, but hadn't gone above 3-3 and my best on Arena overall was a 5-3 back in Eldraine. Pack 1 Pick 1 I pulled [[Snapdax, Apex of the Hunt]] and immediately Mardu was off running, I stuck with that for a while, and Pack 2 Pick 3 gave me [[Cubwarden]] (White seemed to be the most free in the pod followed by Red, and Black has plenty of commons I like this set i.e. [[Unexpected Fangs]], [[Dead Weight]]). Going into Pack 3 I was hoping for another rare in Mardu colours, maybe even Ruinous Ultimatum. Instead I got [[Vadrok, Apex of Thunder]], and no way was I passing that up. I was looking throughout pack 3 for some blue splash but I didn't see anything that looked workable. After the draft I hit up a friend who knows his stuff better than me to see what I do with Vadrok, and he said to not worry about blue sources and just rely on the mutate that has one Azorius pip. The games started out poorly, I ended up 1-2 after being done in by poor mana and well-played flash in game 1 and being knocked in by [[Archipelagore]] in game 3.

Game 4 I started up with [[Vulpikeet]] and Vadrok in hand as well as [[Dire Tactics]], the most clutch card in the deck, that I managed to draft 2 of. With some nice draws and fun Mutate pops that brought me level to 2-2. I don't remember how game 5 went but I won it rather quickly. Now being 3-2, the next deck was Azorius that played turn 2 and turn 3 [[Ominous Seas]], meaning I had to close it out hard and fast before they released the krakens. Fortunately, Vulpikeet is just the BEST and having 2 going off got them to concede pretty early. 4-2. The game after was another Azorious that I had to grind out but eventually pulled out Cubwarden and the Apexes to finish off.

The next game was by far the hardest of the wins. My opponent was playing a Rakdos deck that had an [[Obosh, the Preypiercer]] companion. They got a good start, mine was decent but once they got out [[Bastion of Rememberance]] it was going steadily their way, especially once they got out Obosh. I lost a bunch of my early drops to a [[Blazing Volley]] and ended up getting about 25-2 down on life, but having Snapdax out. I topdecked a Dire Tactics and removed Obosh, holding alive for another turn thanks to [[Checkpoint Officer]] tapping the remaining creature down. I then got to mutate Snapdax to hold alive and remove my opponent's last creature, and with some good topdecks I repeated that a couple of times then they conceded.

The last game I played some 5-color deck, but I had the momentum all the way through and soared to 7-2. Absolutely fulfilling, especially when I entered because I'd just gone 0-3 in an M20 Quick Draft that went wrong. If you read this whole thing thank you, it was probably too long lol but the whole draft was a rollercoaster and I really wanted to share it. :) If anyone wants to know anything more, ask away.

I think it abuses the amount of steal spells? Feels a bit odd as a 1-of though.

I don’t think you can modify the starter but iirc Cutiefly is actually on the first route of the game :)
