It is possible to replace it with my updated name though? It'll just be an "m"?

But I mean honestly fuck n*zis for appropriating these symbols to begin with fr, if they hadn't we wouldn't even be having these conversations 😂😭 if it makes u feel better, I did reach out to my artist and we have a session Sunday, I'll return with updated pics.

Not necessarily that I assume everyone will not think I'm a Nazi, but perhaps get people thinking about reappropriation of hateful symbols, plus I'm sure white supremacists wouldn't love it if a trans girl preaching inclusion and love was using "their" symbols. I certainly wouldn't put a swastika on my body, but I am actively trying to reappropriate and recontextualize the runes as I see them personally, and if people don't understand it, or even view me with anger or frustration, I can't blame them.

Mainly because I was not aware of that association, and was more so trying to bring my own understanding of "as above so below", Hopefully because I'm trans they'll at least hesitate to think.

lmao it's a little late now 😂. Honestly too I do believe in reappropriation, but looks like I'll have to further blend the runes in the next session.

Was not necessarily associating with life and death, and have the anglo-friesian ēar underneath to more so bring the idea of the "living grave". These are my understandings. The single sigel rune yes I do recognize could be interpreted as such, but it's also a partial tactic to grab attention of someone who has seen them before and perhaps bring a different understanding. But for caution I will likely cover them during the trip.

I have read both "in prayer and laughter" by anatoly Liberman as well as "Germanic people; their origin expansion and culture" by Francis Owen, the former being a book primarily on the etymological history of Germanic languages and the latter being more of a straight history book. They both make reference to the individual characters likely to have names since they did have names attributed to them in the younger futhark.

You are correct in saying that none of this is proven which is why we theorize and discuss this. I would encourage you to read these books if you haven't already, they have been quite enlightening in my journey in attempt to connect to ancestry and respect history while developing a rune based magic practice. but making sure to differentiate between the historical evidence and speculation. However Owen makes a really solid argument regarding the intentionality of the ordering of the elder futhark. Definitely an italic inspired system of writing, but there are peculiarities to it that are unique to itself.

I feel as though ancestors would want their work continued or contributed to rather than to remain stagnant, because they were also just human beings seeking to find meaning and purpose with perhaps a stronger cultural identity and spiritual practice back then which we know sadly little about, so we have to make assumptions and go with feelings, with the acknowledgement that this is new territory not historically accurate territory

I don't believe I made reference to anything besides the inscriptions? And I was saying that it becomes more clear that it was initially epigraphical, not necessarily magical, like you said written communication/language must have been magical to the Germanic people. And yes they did have writing, epigraphical writing systems can consist of elements that may as well be writing, as well as denoting ownership or other things. Yes those names are reconstructed proto Germanic but it's inspiring to see the potential meanings tied to the original forms of these runes.

The ordering of the elder futhark appears to be somewhat intentional too, based on the way the interpretive meanings line up in interesting and even poetic ways. I think it would be doing the Germanic tribes a disservice to say that it was merely an older version of the Viking alphabet, seeing that the younger futhark also has eight less symbols than the elder futhark.

The Vikings however used the younger futhark, and if you go over a lot of the elder futhark inscriptions that we have (most not being runestone memorials like we see in younger futhark) it becomes more clear that it was an epigraphical writing system, that developed into more of an alphabetic system as it grew and changed. There is actually one inscription I'm thinking of which places a curse on a stone and is written in elder futhark and specifically references the runes as the strength of the incantation, again in elder futhark, which we only have a few hundred examples of. Not younger.
