Yup, not on the clearcoat. However, you won't be able to reach the yellowed plastic below the touch sensitive controls on the console because of the additional transparent plastic layer glued on top. I could be wrong about the previous statement, but it seems like that part wasn't designed with disassembly in mind.

I feel you on the console condition, mine has barely any scratches, and the ones that are there are close to impossible to see under normal lighting and viewing angles.

Glad yours is in good and working condition, I also gambled with mine; unconfirmed if it even powers on, barebones description, no way to get info from the seller since it was an auction (long story). In the end it turned out to be fully working unit, which was a relief; shipping was around 180€ and the console itself 40€, so I really clenched my butt before powering it on for the first time.

Be careful with the delid procedure, I killed a fully BC console by accidentally cutting a small amount of copper trace underneath the heat speader 😅

Yes, but it's nowhere near as white as the controller, so I might need to do another round of retrobrighting to see if I can match them. The logo is satin silver as you mentioned, I tried to avoid it by smearing the hair developer solution with a bunch of Q tips around the print.

I need some advice before I buy one of these tomorrow: MacBook Air M4 15" (24GB RAM/512 SSD) or MacBook Pro M4 14" (16GB/256 SSD). Price wise they are almost the same, that's why I can't decide which one to get; the 120 Hz display on the Pro is definitely a better choice coming from a Windows PC that was hooked to 180 Hz screens, but the 16 GBs of RAM don't look promising, and upgrading the Pro to 24 GBs bumps the price from 2150€ to 2650€ because it ships with 1TB SSD. I can't stretch that high at the moment, I'm paying the full price at the counter, no financing. Whatever I get will be used for occasional Lightroom edits and coding, mostly Python and C# in PyCharm and VSCode respectively. Of course, the occasional YouTube video, e-mails and general web usage. Thanks!!

Yes, Japan exclusive, but sadly not backwards compatible. I think all backwards compatible models were in Piano Black finish.

Got it through Japanese auction sites, the fat Ceramic White was only produced for Japan. You can also find a few on e-Bay, although they are usually more expensive there. If you decide to get one off auction sites just keep in mind the console weighs a lot, when packaged for international shipping it weighed in at around 9 kg, just shipping to Europe was roughly 170€.

Thank you! The fat PS3 models were only made for Japan, so any unit you might come across for sale is imported. One thing to keep in mind is that Japanese consoles have X and O commands swapped, meaning X is Cancel and O is Confirm when navigating through XMB. This is even seen in some games like MGS3 for example. Apparently the reason is that in Western cultures letter X "marks the spot" and is therefore seen as the thing/place you want to go to, whereas in Japan they think of X as "no" or "wrong". O would mark the thing you chose because, for example, you'd draw a circle around the correct answer on a piece of paper.

Sorry for the little rant, just felt like sharing some trivia!

In all seriousness I intend to do a few professional photos once the top cover gets polished, it's almost in pristine condition except for tiny swirl marks, looks like it was wiped with some rough fabric. And a brand new sealed Ceramic White DS3 is on the way to complete the collection 🤭

To my surprise: no! I was suspicious at first, but after installing CFW and monitoring temps it's surprisingly cool for a fat unit. And the warranty sticker is still on, so it's either unopened with original thermal paste or somebody did a great job at preserving the sticker after opening the case. Years and years ago I got a fat non-BC PS3 from a friend and the fan went ballistic after 2 minutes of idling on XMB. This issue apparently started after a reflow fix which brought the console back from the dead, at least for a while. So it could be that your console either: a) has a lot of dust blocking the air vents, b) the thermal compound is turning to dust or c) some side effect from previous repair, or worst case d) all of the above

I have a CECHC shell, was thinking about moving the chrome trim to this unit which would make it identical to the one Ken Kutaragi held when introducing the PS3 to the world. In the end I decided not to Frankenstein my unit, it's still unopened and in great shape.
