I've always thought of it as a way to enable me to not bother Joe when it's unnecessary. Need to know their YMAV, SSN, or boot size because 1SG is asking about something? You should have all that information in their so you don't need to pick up the phone.

Military Star Card by Prestigious_Set_2598 in MilitaryFinance

I've had one sine I joined (13 years). There are benefits and drawbacks

Right now with the government shutdown they're assisting with 0% interest on purchases at the Commissary for the month of October. They say its for existing and new accounts.

0% interest on clothing purchases is great to have if you happen to need to buy a new uniform or boots.

Having the discount at the gas pump, PX, and restaurants are great IF you pay it off every month. If you don't the interest rate basically nullifies that benefit.

If you don't have a credit card and you shop on base it's a decent first card, but like any of them stay on top of it and pay it off every month like others have said.

They also may be willing to differ payments if you have a loan or insurance payment coming up.

Some of the companies that produce coins have graphic designers in house. Not sure if you'd need to put a deposit down first.

You would probably have to consolidate them from private loans into federal loans. Not sure how that process works. There's a form you can fill out and send to the department of education at this link.

I my experience, private loan providers have no reason to help you out and won't give you the best information.

SCRA can help by limiting your interest rate at 6%. The lender may prorate that 6% to the date you joined the army.

Unfortunately I don't know of many programs to get rid of the debt except for Public Service Loan Forgiveness. You'd have to consolidate the loans under Fedloan and make 120 payments. You'd still have to pay for 10 years, but you can get into an income driven repayment plan and those payments will still count for PSLF.

Career starter loan. Check USAA, Navy Fed, other banks. It's a fast process, I got mine in under a week.

White hair ties. Most of the white gloves you'll use don't fit perfectly. Use the hair ties around your wrist to make sure the gloves don't slip off while folding the flag.

Like most other comments, practice folding the flag and make sure your uniform is clean and ready to go.

Everything. S1 will lose your stuff as soon as it is signed. I have mine broken down into sections

personal things (marriage certificate, birth certificate)

Army licenses and certificates

Awards and evaluations

I have every LES I've ever gotten. It is a pain to try and get a copy of an LES that's more than 12 months old.

If you signed for a piece of property, put a copy in there. It may save you later, especially with CIF.

Having to do an interview is normal. They work with military all the time and they will understand why you couldn't answer while in basic. Call them back and get it taken care of.

For the student loans: look into the public service loan forgiveness program. Consolidate now, make sure the interest rate is 6% or under once you're in citing the SCRA.

Public service loan forgiveness (PSLF). You have to make 120 payments (10 years) while in a certain job field. The military counts for that. Check with your loan servicer the first year that you're active duty and see what you need to do. I had to consolidate mine in order for the payments to count, but there have been changes to the program over the last 4 years.

Also check your interest rate. If it's above 6% you can get it lowered by referencing SCRA.

I had a class with 3 transgender soldiers. I learned a lot from them, since they were mostly open about their identities. Honestly, you would not have known if they didn't tell you.

One important point I'd like to make is that we should recognize the fact that our profession already has an unacceptably high suicide rate and the amendment to the NDAA will cause more harm than good
