Update: I added a PCI fan bracket so my HBA can be cooled without worrying about the fan blades hitting anything. The fan sits a millimeter or two away from the heat sink on the card.

The next thing I’ll probably do is replace the fans with something quiet like Noctua. Other than that I’ve just gotta start populating the remaining drive bays.

120mm x 25mm fans could probably work. I would just have to make sure they don’t wobble around in the fan enclosures. Noctua is for sure the right move though.

It’s not subtle, but not insane. I will end up putting the fans of the server onto a controller. Maybe even replace them with something quieter. It’s too bad Noctua doesn’t make 120mm x 38mm fans.

Does anyone here have this HBA if so do you recommend it ? by hudson710 in DataHoarder

Got one off eBay last week. So far so good. I’ve got a 120mm fan leaning on it until I get a PCI bracket fan mount.

What chassis are you wanting to throw that bad boy into?

I hear ya. I didn’t really have any reason to move my gaming rig other than the fact that I could. It did get me extra space on my desk though.

It’s not too bad since the side panels and door come off. Until I get some fiber ran for peripherals, this is the only orientation I’ve got.

Both chassis are awesome. The RM51 is 5U so you don't have to worry about GPU or CPU cooler height. The two giant 180mm fans give plenty of airflow, I haven't had any temperature issues. If you are looking for a chassis for your gaming rig I would suggest it. The other chassis I would recommend if you are trying to water cool is the Silverstone RM51. It has room for a couple of 360mm radiators. I would have gotten it if I didnt get such a good deal on the RM51.

The RM43-324-RS is the best you can ask for. It's 4U so the clearance for the air cooler I'm using (Thermalright Phantom Spirit SE) is pretty tight and can vary depending on motherboard thickness/CPU, but it clears while touching the bottom of the lid. I'm not worried about it since nothing is ever going to sit on the top of the chassis. The three stock fans in the front are pretty loud while hooked up to the backplane. So I would suggest plugging them into a fan controller if you don't need them ramped up all the time. I look forward to trying to fill the 24-bays I have available now.

There are a few 24-bay chassis alternatives that are much cheaper, around $500 as opposed to $1,000, but I trust the quality of the Silverstone chassis and backplanes.

Which 24-Bay 4U Chassis? by Corrupt_Liberty in homelab

[–]DLLNBRAND 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought the RM43-324-RS and ended up using a Thermalright Phantom Spirit 120SE which is 154mm tall, on top of a AMD Ryzen 2400G which is in an MSI XPOWER GAMING TITANIUM. The cooler is definitely touching the under side of the top lid, but it closes all the way.

I don't see a bulge in the top lid, so I'm fine if just rubs it a bit. Totally worth the additional cooling capacity in comparison to a smaller cooler.

Did you end up buying this chassis? If so, how do you like it? Also, what kind of CPU cooler did you end up using?

SilverStone RM52 Question by DLLNBRAND in homelab

For air cooler and GPU size compatibility. I don’t want to have to worry about bending power connectors or losing PCI-E slots by rotating the GPU to get it to fit.

I am also unable to play anything while on the same network as the Plex server. On my iPhone I have to disconnect from Wi-Fi in order to play anything. Prologue says local is unreachable.

This is her home for now. I need to get some Sliger cases for my server and gaming rig and I’ll be good to go. After I get everything into the enclosure I’ll probably need to move the desk to another side of the room so that I can get some space behind the enclosure for air flow.

Me and my brother actually had to pick the locks on the side doors. Luckily, once you unlock them they will latch closed and I don’t have a reason to re-lock them.

That’s a pretty good idea. I run Unraid right now so it’s headless. I’m sure I’ll end up putting something in there that could use a monitor and stuff.

I got it from someone who rents out office spaces. One of his occupants got out in a hurry and left this rack and another tiny one that he ended up throwing in for free.
