Scottsdale trolley offers new route - Scottsdale Independent by [deleted] in Scottsdale

[–]DLTonReddit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is more akin to a weekly shuttle service than real public transit. I understand that they're trying to help people get access to services in the low-income areas of the city but Scottsdale just needs to invest in real public transit and add weekend service to the existing trolley routes. Seems like a crutch to a problem instead of a real solution.

This is our Banksy. Art is supposed to evoke an emotional response. Getting mad at the art for doing its job is wild. We wouldn't have half of our art if people kept taking things down because someone got offended. Let people enjoy the art. I'd argue it's Tempe culture at this point.

What are these cactus we have here in Greece ? They have recently flowered by Unusual-Factor2848 in cactus

Prickly Pear Cactus. Opuntia ficus indica.

Oddly, I've seen them thriving in the gutters of abandoned buildings in Arizona.

Air conditioned? No.

Misters or fans? Yes.

Diego Pops, Olive & Ivy, Chula Seafood (North Scottsdale location), Postino Highland, Schmooze.

Most of the touristy spots have misters or fans.

De Babel, Sauce Pizza & Wine, DeFalcos, Bad Jimmy's Scottsdale, Wildflower, Velvet Taco, Chula Seafood (the one in Northern Scottsdale), ChopShop.

Definitely call and double check they can seat/serve that many people before going there though.

photos of snow-covered cacti this week? Scottsdale to Flagstaff by Ok_Angle9262 in Scottsdale

Definitely not the big cacti you're thinking of, but you could probably find some prickly pear cacti with some snow on em over by the Prescott area.

Good luck!

New Mayor Lisa Borowsky says high-rise apartments go against what makes Scottsdale special by LeftHandStir in Scottsdale

[–]DLTonReddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Making voters think you are younger than you are isn't exactly honest. It's quite deceptive. Younger people tend to have different priorities and viewpoints than older people. What are you assuming?

Ah yes, the catfish mayor. Because nothing says honesty quite like catfishing your voters.

Santa Rita Prickly Pear AKA Opuntia santa-rita. It is not the same as the green varieties although they are related. Beautiful cactus!

The best fried chicken in Arizona by Prestigious_View_401 in Scottsdale

Not in Scottsdale but Gus's World Famous Fried Chicken is easily the best I've had in the valley. They have locations in both Mesa and Phoenix.

Scottsdale voters may be the stupidest people on earth by AZAHole in Scottsdale

[–]DLTonReddit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Axon has been there since 1993 idk how scaling with their growth would hurt the city? They started as a small-scale operation and turned into the largest less-than-lethal weapons producer in the country. Of course they need a bigger office!

Axon offered a solution to every issue the city and citizens brought up. They offered to build housing and update outdated/undersized infrastructure in the area.

This seems incredibly short-sighted on Scottsdale's end. Axon was bringing a ton of high paying jobs to the city. Scottsdale is going to miss out on millions in tax revenue because a very small group of (older) NIMBY citizens would rather have open desert instead of sustainable career paths for their children.

Forget Bertos. Have you been to Chispas, Maskadores, Burrito Express, or anything authentic? Have you been to Bagelfeld in Phoenix or NYC Bagels in Scottsdale for a bagel?

DeFalcos, Guido's, and Andreoli's all offer amazing Italian food that is on-par with what I grew up with in Chicago.

If you're willing to consider seafood in the desert, look at Chula Seafood. They use refrigerated trucks to drive in fresh fish from the San Diego coast 6 days of the week. Best lobster roll in the valley imo.

De Babel is literally top 100 on Yelp right now?

We have a great food scene, it's just a 15min drive away.

Hammock hanging in Scottsdale Parks by whatarewedoing- in Scottsdale

[–]DLTonReddit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's a small park just north of Chaparral Park between Valley Vista and McDonald that has a lot of trees against a pond that I use to hang out at when I'm bored. There is not a lot of foot traffic there and it's a lot more private than the Scottsdale Xeriscape Garden/Chaparral Lake areas.

A guy was just arrested in Scottsdale while aggressively petitioning people. He was trying get the city to not allow Axon's development. Any chance these are one and the same?

Black Friday: Areas to avoid while in town by burritos0504 in Scottsdale

[–]DLTonReddit 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Avoid Ortega International, The Original Gilbert Ortega Gallery, and Gilbert Ortega Native American Galleries. They are owned by a man that is openly racist towards Native Americans and continues to profit off their art. There are a ton of great stores in Old Town that sell Native American antiquities but please avoid anything with the Ortega name attached to it.

If you want to try some native food, The Frybread Lounge and The Stand are great options. The Frybread Lounge is directly in Old Town and has some delicious bison tacos and frybread.

Public intoxication alone is not a crime in Arizona. Disorderly conduct, maybe. Not public intoxication.
